Job overview

One of Australia’s leading independent schools for boys, Scotch College is renowned for its innovation in pedagogy, exceptional teaching and learning facilities, and its commitment to offering a broad education to develop each boy to his full potential.

Commencing in 2023, Scotch College seeks to appoint a teacher who has relevant tertiary qualifications and relevant experience to the role of Director of Research, Teaching and Learning in the Junior School.

The Director of Research, Teaching and Learning in the Junior School plays a leading role in the design and delivery of a world-class curriculum, and in overseeing approaches to learning that inspire and challenge every student, putting boys at the centre of such enterprise.

This role is defined by a thirst for seeking the most effective ways to facilitate learning for boys whilst connecting to the passions and interests of each individual. A clear understanding of what primary aged students learn, how they learn and the vital role positive relationships play in boys’ learning is essential.

An outstanding teacher in their own right, The Director of Research, Teaching and Learning will inspire, influence and empower students and all members of staff engaged in facilitating learning within the Junior School. The incumbent must have a strong focus on collective efficacy and means by which staff and students can effectively collaborate.

Driving improvement by championing reflective practice through action research and data analysis forms a core part of this role. The Director of Research, Teaching and Learning should constantly question the status quo, supporting effective ways in which the School can critique itself and subsequently evolve for the benefit of boys and staff.

This role requires vision for, and understanding of, the future of all Junior School children. Reinforcing connections with the Senior School and helping to enact whole school pathways of progress by ensuring all students are adequately challenged and supported, is a key requirement.

This full-time, and ongoing, position in the Junior School is recognised as a senior leadership role within the Junior School Executive Team. The Director of Research, Teaching and Learning will have a teaching component to their role. The successful candidate will be expected to start in the new academic year, 2023.

Applications should indicate appropriate expertise and experience. Support of the College’s Christian philosophy and co-curriculum is also expected.
