Head of Inclusion (Whole school SENCo)

Horizon International School is a supportive, student focused, international community school. We strive to challenge and inspire all learners to develop their skills and nurture values through a love of learning so that they can responsibly embrace the diverse challenges of tomorrow. 

Horizon International School, Dubai, is an established, thriving community that follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum of England in Primary and Secondary. Students take a combination of IGCSE and GCSE at the end of Key Stage 4, leading into ‘A’ levels thereafter. Since our doors opened in September 2008, the school community has rapidly grown, and we now have approximately 1350 students with ages ranging from 3 to 18 from over 80 different countries. 

We seek to recruit a well-qualified and talented SENCo/Head of Inclusion, for September 2023 to complement our inspired and passionate team. We seek a middle leader who can teach consistently to exceptionally high standards whilst also continuing to drive our whole-school inclusion agenda. It is expected that applicants will be able to relate to and align with our motto of ‘Everyone counts, everyone contributes, everyone succeeds.’ The school is on a significant journey to excellence. Applicants must have the enthusiasm, commitment and energy needed to work in a rapidly growing and high performing school.

We require a Head of Inclusion who: 

Is passionate about Inclusion and is able to champion this across the school

Is able to work collaboratively with teachers and parents to ensure quality first teaching for all groups of learners

Is able to lead the Inclusion Support Team consisting of Inclusion Teachers and LSAs

Is able to work collaboratively alongside the Leadership Team, and the Assistant Principal for Inclusion

Can demonstrate that hard work influences success 

Has an understanding that aspirations matter 

Agrees that there is no substitute for exceptional teaching 

Believes that intelligence is not fixed 

Agrees that people make a difference and what we do matters 

Believes that we need strong partnerships to succeed 

Is willing to contribute ideas and fully support the strategic vision of the school 

A B.Ed degree/B.A (Hons) or other relevant degree coupled with PGCE or QTS is essential. A NaSENCo qualification or Masters Degree in Special Educational Needs is strongly desired. Police clearance certificates are also not negotiable. 

Relevant UK experience is essential and recent international experience within a through school (ages 3 to 18) is desirable.
