St Robert of Newminster Catholic School & Sixth Form College are proud to be part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, a family of secondary, middle, primary and first schools in Durham, Gateshead, Northumberland and Sunderland. Bishop Wilkinson is the largest catholic education trust in the North East of England and will have a total of 48 schools. This is an exciting time to join our supportive, and growing team. 

We wish to appoint a committed, well-qualified and highly effective Head of Psychology, required by either Easter 2023 or September 2023.  

We are seeking and individual to: 

  • Lead, organise and direct the teaching of Psychology 
  • Take responsibility for a division of the school 
  • Advise the Head Teacher on curriculum matters pertaining to Psychology  
  • Facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential. 
  • Contribute to raising standards of student attainment. 
  • Share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth. 

The successful candidate should have: 

  • Qualified teacher status 
  • A degree certificate appropriate to the job role 
  • Proven experience in teaching Psychology at A Level.

St Robert of Newminster is a large and expanding 11-18 Voluntary Aided Catholic community secondary school with a roll of over 1600, which includes a large sixth form of over 500 students. The school is located in Washington, Sunderland and is part of the Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. Pupils come from a wide variety of social backgrounds although the number of free school meals is below the national average. St Robert’s has an excellent reputation as a provider of high quality Catholic education and is over subscribed every year. We have a large and highly skilled staff body. There are currently 128 teachers (114 FTE) and 94 members of support staff. St Robert of Newminster serves the parishes of: Our Lady’s, Washington, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Penshaw, St. Bede’s, Washington, St John Boste, Washington, St. Mary’s, Easington Lane and St. Michael’s, Houghton-le-Spring.
