Head Science Technician

We are seeking a full-time Head Science Technician to join our Science Department. The ideal candidate will be an experienced science technician looking to progress to the next step in their career. Previous experience in a scientific background is highly preferable, along with being a highly organised, capable, and enthusiastic individual. This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday (8am to 4pm with some flexibility possible) All year round. The salary for this position is dependent on experience and qualifications.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a welcoming, friendly and successful Academy, managing the technician team to support the Science Department’s daily operation.

Applicants should have a Science qualification and be capable of successfully supporting and promoting laboratory based learning across the academy. Excellent communication and organisation skills are essential, as managing a team of technicians and working with teachers to prepare requested equipment is a key part of this role. Ability to follow written instructions to prepare practicals confidently for Biology, Chemistry and Physics for GCSE and A Level subjects.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Science to support growth and progression, being involved in: 

• Organising the daily roles and duties of the other science technicians

• Implementing Health & Safety advice, guidance and training

• Performing daily, weekly, monthly and annual checks of laboratory equipment, supplies and chemicals 

• Maintaining high levels of cleanliness and tidiness in stock cupboards. 

• Arranging equipment requirements with staff and preparing these in advance

• Preparing solutions of chemicals, carrying out practical experiments with these and other lab equipment to ensure they are suitable for teachers requirements

• Maintaining supplies of equipment and ordering replenishments as required

• Supporting science teachers with tasks as required such as preparing assessment materials for in lessons

• Attend and lead meetings as required 

• Assisting in the development of new protocols and resources

• Assist staff and/or pupils with science practicals
