Job overview

Are you looking to work in a school which is ambitious for every child, is highly inclusive and where you will work alongside exceptional colleagues who will support you to be your best?

Are you looking to direct and manage a counselling team as it seeks to ensure care for a greater range of students?

Westminster City School is a successful 11-18 Christian non-denominational comprehensive academy for boys with a mixed sixth form. Ours is a vibrant learning community situated in the heart of central London with all the opportunities and advantages of an inner city school. You, like us, will share our belief in the highest standards of academic attainment in a comprehensive setting.

In March 2022, the school’s OFSTED inspection confirmed that the school remains a ‘Good’ school but we are restless in our ambition to be ‘Outstanding’ in time for the school’s 150th anniversary in 2027.

We are looking for an experienced School Counsellor to lead our high-quality counselling service to students experiencing a wide range of emotional difficulties, ensuring that safeguarding and the welfare and care of all children and young people is promoted. This position is a permanent, term time only role and you will co-ordinate the work of one other counselling colleague as well as being a key part of the leadership within our wider Inclusion Team.

Reporting to the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral), the current postholder is also one of our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leaders in the school and we would support any colleague wishing to be trained into this role. We have a track record of developing our staff by implementing an effective CPD programme. We would also want the postholder to lead some training within the school for a range of teaching and support staff.

This position is well suited to someone with experience of leading a counselling team or who is ambitious to do so. You will line manage our existing School Counsellor and work closely with our Inclusion Manager and SENDCO to provide multi-layered care to students of our school.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS. We would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates.

If you would like to apply for this post please follow our link https://www.tes.com/jobs/employer/westminster-city-school to obtain and submit our application form. If for any reason this is not possible, please print out the application and send your completed form by post to the school, or email to l.ellens@wcsch.com

You may also wish to visit our website www.wcsch.com to read more about the school.

Deadline for completed applications: Monday 20 February 2023 at noon. Interviews will be scheduled to take place later that week. However, the school reserves the right to interview exceptional candidates before the deadline and so early applications are welcome.
