Job overview

The Post

This is a key post in a dynamic and strong faculty. We are looking for someone with a genuine and infectious passion for their subject, who will enthuse and engage the students they teach; someone with high expectations for all students whatever their prior attainment.

The post is suitable for candidates who are able to teach KS3 Computer Science, GCSE Computer Science and elements of the A-Level Computer Science specification.

We welcome applications from experienced teachers as well as those new to the profession and currently in training.

We are part of the Oxfordshire Teaching Schools Alliance (OTSA), a partnership of Oxfordshire schools, Oxfordshire County Council, The University of Oxford, The University of Reading, Oxford Brookes University and other significant educational organisations, which opens a wealth of opportunities to both receive and deliver CPD inside our school and externally with schools across the country. Staff can engage in high quality events and courses for development. Much of this training is delivered by our Trust team of outstanding Specialist Leaders in Education (SLE) who are appointed from within our schools, and our partners as outstanding practitioners in their fields who share that expertise more widely.

For further information about the faculty, please email Adam Roush, Head of Computer Science aroush@st-birinus.oxon.sch.uk

Should you wish to tour the schools in advance of an application, or for any general queries, please contact the Heateacher’s PA at St Birinus School, Helen Cliff at hcliff@st-birinus.oxon.sch.uk

Values and vision

St Birinus School expects its teachers to set high standards for behaviour, uniform and equipment. Staff carefully plan activities that will engage students of all aptitudes and abilities. They instil in students a spirit of enquiry and genuine curiosity about the world around them.

The secondary school has a wide range of activities for students to embrace, including teams, bands, clubs and productions for pupils of all abilities, aptitudes and interests. From weightlifting to Warhammer (both of which are extremely popular), there is something for everyone.

Ofsted report

“Most pupils are confident about whether they are on track to achieve their target grade and if not what they need to do to improve… Pupils are safe and well cared for in the school. There are good procedures in place and policies are regularly reviewed; record-keeping is comprehensive and all staff training is up to date. Governors are also appropriately trained and knowledgeable about safeguarding, meeting regularly with school staff so that they have good oversight of the procedures and practices in place.”
