Job overview

Teacher of Mandarin Chinese

This is a fantastic opportunity for a well qualified teacher of Mandarin Chinese to deliver the subject to pupils in years 7 – 11, including preparation for GCSE.  The post would suit either an established teacher with the skills and experience to develop the department or an ambitious person who is relatively new to teaching and who can see potential in making their mark in this new school.  You will be working alongside like-minded colleagues and guided by supportive, experienced managers.

Due to limited pupil numbers in the first two years as we concentrate on a two-form entry into years 7 and 9 it is likely that the candidate will teach a reduced timetable, therefore the ability to teach a second subject or contribute towards another discipline is necessary for this to be a full-time post.

Kensington Park School is split over two sites to the north and south of Kensington Gardens.  The Sixth Form, in Queen’s Gate, opened its doors to pupils last year. We are now looking to staff the main school which is situated a short walk east of Notting Hill, in Bayswater, for boys and girls aged 11–16.   The School opens this September and we have already had a large number of enquiries from prospective families hoping to enrol their children.  Although we are a new school, we have been fortunate to attract a team that has a vast wealth of experience managing HMC schools. They have been excited by the chance to create something new and to build on all the best elements of the schools they come from.

With our wonderful central London location and a wealth of sports and cultural centres as our neighbours we will be able to integrate world-class co-curricular experiences into the timetable.

Salary is commensurate with the post and the possibility of single accommodation is available at a subsidised rate, which will involve some contribution to boarding duties.

KPS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be subject to a number of safer recruitment checks including an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Closing date: Friday 16 February

Interviews will be held shortly after Monday 19 February

Welcome to Kensington Park School.

Split across two sites on either side of Kensington Gardens, Kensington Park School offers boys and girls aged 11 to 18 an exceptionally well-rounded education in the heart of central London.

An academically purposeful school, our central purpose is, above all, to enable potential, and each student is excited, challenged, and inspired to become the best possible version of themselves. Small class sizes, coupled with a broad and balanced curriculum and outstanding pastoral care, not only prepares students for exceptional GCSE and A Level results, but enables them to develop skills they need to succeed in a fast-paced and ever-changing world.

We believe that young people flourish when they feel happy, confident, and challenged. This core belief underpins all that we do in our school, which has a friendly, family atmosphere and focuses on the individual.

At the heart of our success is the strength of partnership that exists between our staff, students, and their families. We believe that every young person should feel a sense of belonging in our school community and enjoy their learning. As a consequence, our students will leave with the skills and resources they need to take the next step in their lives, confident in their strengths and prepared to meet the challenges of the future.

The underlying philosophy of our school aims to prepare our students for their futures in a rapidly changing world by encouraging critical thinking, adaptability, and taking increasing responsibility for one’s own learning and actions whilst striving for personal academic excellence. The ethos of the school is built on mutual respect between staff and students alongside a strong culture of inclusiveness and openness, which also provides freedom for individual ambition and expression.

Our school values are summarised by the KPS REACH Code, which emphasizes Responsibility, Empathy, Ambition, Courage, and Humility.

We are unapologetically ambitious for every young person in our care, and for the school as a whole. This determination to provide a brilliant mix of motivated students and dedicated staff is part of what makes KPS such a vibrant and positive place to study and work.
