Position Information 

Bonalbo Central School is located in the beautiful Upper Clarence Valley, sitting proudly on Wahlubal land. A small but cohesive staff work together to improve the wellbeing and life opportunities of the 90 K-12 students from Bonalbo, Old Bonalbo, Drake, Tabulam and Mallanganee. 30% of our students identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander. The school is supported by the P&C and local AECG and works closely with other ‘West of the Range’ schools. Our school has excellent facilities, including multi-purpose hall, trade training centre, agricultural and sporting grounds and quality ICT resources. Our Strategic Improvement Plan focuses on student growth and attainment, wellbeing and community connections. The Secondary MC teacher is responsible for the Multi-Categorical class (Autism and Mental Health) of up to 7 students (fully integrated into mainstream classes), with the support of a full-time SLSO and the Learning Support Team.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 
  1. Approval to teach special education (Autism) and/or experience teaching students with complex needs, including autism, intellectual disabilities, challenging behaviours, emotional, trauma and mental health concerns, with demonstrated ability to plan and implement differentiated strategies and programs that meet their communication, sensory, academic, social and behavioural needs.
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and monitor personalised learning, transition and behaviour support plans to support individual student needs in an inclusive learning environment.
  3. Capacity to support teaching staff to adjust their teaching and learning programs and assessment to effectively differentiate for MC students in mainstream classes, and to lead and manage support staff
  4. Highly developed communication, organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, parents, support agencies and wider community.
  5. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the educational needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families, students from low socio-economic rural communities and those with complex needs.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
