Volunteer Panel Members for School Admission Appeals
The Schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham
Birmingham
- Expired
- Job type:
- Part Time, Supply

Job overview
The King Edward VI Grammar Schools in Birmingham are extremely popular schools. Many children cannot be offered a place, and parents of those children not offered a place have the right to appeal. When this happens, an independent panel decides whether or not the child should be admitted.
We are currently seeking new panel members. Being a panel member could be a very rewarding experience for anyone interested in education and who has free time during the day.
You don't need any specific experience. Independent panel members may or may not have a background in education but those who have previously been employed by a King Edward VI Grammar School may not sit on a panel.
Panel members need to be impartial, objective, sensitive and to be aware of the impact of their decisions on both the child and the school in question.
This is a voluntary position, but panel members receive travelling expenses when attending hearings. Lunch and refreshments will be provided during the appeals days.
Applicants must be able to attend an informal interview and a training session.
The majority of the appeals are held during May and June each year, but occasionally the schools do receive 'in-year' appeals which can be at any point throughout the year.
Each panel member usually sits on one panel per year amounting to one or two days of hearings.
If you are interested in this position, please contact 0121 415 6004 or admissions3@ske.uk.net
Closing date: Friday 2nd March 2018
