ESOL resources for adjectives. Word bank, presentations, word-searches.

ESOL resources for adjectives. Word bank, presentations, word-searches.

Assorted resources for teaching and learning adjectives in English. Designed for ESOL, but equally useful for primary or secondary support. A word bank of the most common adjectives. We used this by cutting out the words, and matching opposites, or antonyms. A slide show of the same words, just for display, or for asking learners to provide synonyms and antonyms. Works well on an iPad for sharing in pairs. Plus another version of the same words with additional slides showing most common antonyms, as found in Roget’s Thesaurus. Finally a pair of rather big word searches. Please make smaller ones (easy to find software online) if these prove too big.

Noun Vs. Verb Multi-Pack

Noun Vs. Verb Multi-Pack

Noun Vs. Verb is a great new resource! Noun Vs. Verb has 9 pages of questions which explore a pupils understanding of whether a word is performing the role of a noun or a verb. Noun Vs.Verb has 3 distinct question styles. A simple labeling activity, where pupils must decide if the target word is acting as a noun or verb. In the second question style, learners must write a sentence using the target word as a noun, and then as a verb. The third activity is more in line with a classic KS2 SAT question, where pupils must fill in the blank, and identify the missing word that can be placed into both sentences. The resource pack has 9 pages and just over 100 questions for pupils to answer. Plus corresponding answers. The pages where pupils have to write a sentence, answers are not supplied. This is because there are potentially a huge amount of answers that pupils could provide. Perfect for a years worth of grammar lessons or some SATs preparation!! Who will win, in the battle of the year…Noun Vs. Verb!

Visual Adjective Helper Cards (Autism)

Visual Adjective Helper Cards (Autism)

As April is Autism Awareness month, I created this Visual Adjective Helper Cards pack in the hope that teachers and parents alike may find it useful. Imagine you are teaching adjectives to your class. Your class includes a student with autism or any student struggling with information overload. How would you differentiate the task to suit this child’s needs? NOTES: A child with autism responds well to visuals – illustrations rather than print, which can be too overwhelming. You don’t want to cause information overload that may lead to frustration. A child with autism is very literal, so make sure any instructions are simple, precise and do not cause confusion. Be sure that any sequence of instructions uses simple terms. Use of colour can also help your student keep on track. The task should allow for a stepped progression leading to the final written result. A graphic organiser will help your student organise his writing, before attempting the final step. EAL New Arrivals: Scheme of Work and Resource Pack

EAL New Arrivals: Scheme of Work and Resource Pack

This book will serve as a short course for new EAL (English as an Additional Language) students who may have recently arrived in Primary or Secondary school and who may have limited or no English. Currently in Education, many schools have significant numbers of students arriving each year with limited English skills and therefore little no access to the school curriculum. Formal EAL departments and training in schools has slowly diminished in recent years and often there is no clear course or structure in how to ingratiate these students into the school and offer appropriate support. Teachers are often at a loss when it comes to providing work for these students and the students themselves can be very limited in their ability to progress. Very often there is a lack of specialist EAL teachers or support workers in schools and so this book would offer an easy to teach method for different members of staff in a school. This book could be used over a 6-7 week course, therefore could be ideal introduction for the EAL student’s first half term in a school. It will include weekly themes that mix the acquiring of English language grammar and vocabulary, improving reading, writing and oral skills and learning common and useful element of English to improve their daily life in school and in the community.
