The Quiz will run itself so the teacher can join in the festivities. This fact based activity can also act as a revision lesson for these topics.

Edexcel: 1C Britain: Ferment of Ideas: Scientific Revolution

This lesson is aimed mainly at Edexcel, but can be adapted for other courses. Access to the course textbook is recommended. Starter is deciphering pictograms to recap the religious developments that identified Religious non-conformity after the Restoration, answers are on the slides. Pupils are then introduced to the idea of the Scientific Revolution, and a student made video about what it is. Then source analysis about the changes that will/did happen in the Scientific Revolution. Pupils are then given a basic handout of the next few slides, and the teacher explains the actual scientific changes that occurred during this time (if you are unfamiliar with them, you may want to look them up in a little more detail before teaching this lesson). Pupils then have a missing word sheet about the Royal Society, before watching a video about the Royal Society. Pupils then summarise and discuss the impact of the Scientific Revolution.

Edexcel: 1C Britain: Restoration to Revolution

This lesson is aimed mainly at Edexcel, but can be adapted for other courses. Access to the course textbook is recommended. Pupils consider the different issues between Charles II and Parliament once the restoration has occurred. Pupils begin with a quick reminder about the Restoration through the video: restoration of the stuart monarchy. Pupils then consider the type of person Charles II was, and how this might cause issues, before going into some role play to discuss the issues at hand. Some information about the Restoration Settlement is given and discussed, before pupils then consider the different specific areas of issue and complete a guided table on this. Pupils then summarise a passage of reading on some of the issues for Charles using poetry, before showing their understanding through pictionary.

Edexcel: 1C Britain: Changing structure of society during the Interregnum or Protectorate

This lesson is aimed mainly at Edexcel, but can be adapted for other courses. Access to the course textbook is recommended. Pupils go through a number of different tasks, aimed to look at the different changes in society throughout the Interregnum of 1649-1660. Pupils begin with a focus on the poor, the different types, and the main methods used to aid them, considering sources and using the textbook to identify the main changes made. The teacher then introduces the Radar Graph task, and using three colours, pupils are to fill it in. This is guided by the teacher in the first instance, with basics for each of the 5 main areas on the powerpoint, before pupils work independently to complete the task using the course textbook (page guidance is given). This should take at least 2 hours to complete fully, before pupils are then guided to an exam question that can be completed in lesson or as homework to consolidate understanding.

Pupils start with a quick reminder of who Oliver Cromwell was, then decipher pictograms that summarise Cromwell's early life. Pupils analyse a source to consider Cromwell's motives and beliefs, before watching a video that considers how Cromwell becomes the Lord Protector, with guided questions. Pupils then create a short presentation on how Oliver Cromwell was once in power, and the 4 key areas that he affects.

This lesson is aimed mainly at Edexcel, but can be adapted for other courses. Access to the course textbook is recommended. Pupils start by filling in the missing words to identify each of the different religious groups around during the English Civil War, answers are on the powerpoint. Then there is a focus on Presbyterianism, starting with a video with guided focus points, and a bit of background on early Presbyterianism. Pupils then consider the impact of the ECW on religious radicalism, and consolidate with a comparison of different beliefs held by Presbyterians.

Edexcel: Britain 1C: Timeline English Civil War

This is a full hour- hour and a half. Teacher puts the timeline dates around the room, pupils then have to put the events in the right place, adding details to each of the events as they remember them - so dates, key people, outcome etc. Class then checks against the answer sheet and pupils make notes of the finished product or as they go along. Very good for revision and consolidation.

The Oregon Trail was a major route that people took when migrating to the western part of the United States. Between 1841 and 1869, hundreds of thousands of people traveled westward on the trail. During the search, your students use a variety of strategies and skills that will prepare them to do research using the internet. This is a great way to increase your students' ability to use technology as part of their whole learning experience. There is a map activity and several writing prompts included. An answer key is provided.
