Preparation time: 30 minutes - 1 hour (introducing new vocabulary and also the transcript and sound files for the listening activity) Lesson length: 1.5 hours - 2 hours Here is the 7th resource for introducing French to adults at beginner’s level! I have compiled this resource using an adult approach who are learning French for the very first time. This activity focuses on the time only from the hour to half past the hour and it also incorporates regular verbs ending in ‘-re’ in the present tense. This resource also incorporates all the four keys skills such as reading, listening, speaking and writing. Translation Race - KS4 Careers

This activity can be used for either French or Spanish at KS4. Students are given 5 sentences in English on the topic of careers to translate into the target language in increasing difficulty. Vocabulary has been taken from AQA lists. They must work in groups or pairs to translate sentences one at a time getting them checked by you and correcting as quickly as possible. Full instructions are included in the document. This activity is fantastic for developing students writing and proof reading skills and for addressing common mistakes in an engaging fashion. Could be extended by asking students to pick a sentence and extending it as far as they can. Makes a good plenary task.

Vente Aux Enchères - Jobs and Future Plans

In this activity students work in groups to bid on correct sentences as if in an auction. The aim is to win the most correct sentences but if they lose their money they can win some back by correcting an incorrect sentence. This activity is designed for year 9 and takes vocabulary from Studio 3 module 3 on the topic of jobs and future plans however it covers a lot of vocabulary used at GCSE for the same topic. There are 20 sentences in this activity. There is a worksheet for students to use to decide which sentences they want to bid on, a powerpoint with each sentence on individual slides to use while going through the bidding process and the answers are at the bottom of the document. Instructions are on both worksheet and powerpoint. An extension task could be to translate the sentences, this could be conducted as a race. A great activity for revision of the topic and for improving students written accuracy.

Two practice writing papers (one foundation, one higher) following the format of the new GCSE writing exam, and focusing on the topics covered in Theme 3 (Current and future study and employment). The foundation paper includes four questions (describe the photo, 40 words question, translation and 90 words question) and the higher paper includes three (90 words question, 150 words question and translation). I have also included two feedback sheets (one foundation, one higher) that include"check-lists" (based on the AQA mark scheme for writing) to provide quick, personalised feedback for each of the questions.
