Buy Clothes for Ed Sheeran - Students can develop their money recognition skills and using money to buy clothes for Ed with these activities. It is the equivalent of the old class shop, but revamped to be motivating using technology. It was designed for Secondary students with special needs, but can be easily used for all students. It is an age appropriate Money Math activity for secondary students, where they are motivated to purchase clothes for Ed. Once dressed they can listen to one of his songs using Youtube. There are a number of matching the monies used in the activity. There is a hard copy version plus a money visual symbol board to use to support student learning. There are is an accompanying worksheet in A4 or A3 size to print.

Impulse-control problems can be mostly neurological in nature (i.e. children with ADHD often have lower levels of dopamine, which can lead them to reflexively respond to their environment by disregarding the social norms of waiting their turn. Younger children also have difficulty taking turns because they have not properly developed the impulse control skills that come as they mature). Reminding children to stop interrupting using verbal means in front of the entire class can be embarrassing to a child with ADHD or impulse-control issues. Interactive Behavior Contracts

►What’s Included?◄ You will receive: -5 fill-in-the-blank worksheets for students to choose a replacement behavior and reward to work for (in PDF format) ►How to Use◄ A behavior contract is a simple behavior management tool which utilizes positive reinforcement. Simply put, a behavior contract pairs positive behaviors that you would like to see your student perform with rewards that he or she can obtain when they engage in the positive behavior. A few tips on implementation: The positive behavior listed on the behavior contract should take the place of a negative behavior being exhibited by your student, and be stated in positive, goal-oriented terms. For example, a replacement behavior for students who have difficulties talking out of turn could be “I will raise my hand when I need to say something” instead of “I will not talk out of turn.” A replacement behavior for a student who engages in aggressive behaviors towards his or her peers could be “I will keep my hands to myself” instead of “I will not hit or pinch others.” Although the teacher should decide which specific behaviors to select for the behavior contract, allowing your student to offer his or her input regarding the rewards established by the contract will make the student more likely to abide by the terms of the behavior contract. If students do not abide by the terms in the contract, it could be that they did not play a big enough role in the creation of it. Picking an individualized reinforcement that incentivizes your student to engage in appropriate behaviors is key. A reinforcement survey, which can be purchased for $1.00 in my shop, is often helpful to determine what is most reinforcing for each of your students. Allow your students to color a single picture or move objects along a path each time they engage in the predetermined appropriate behavior. Every child will react differently to reward systems. Some children need very little incentive to perform appropriate behaviors, while others will need rewards delivered at a very frequent rate in order to alter maladaptive behaviors. When the latter is the case, teachers can alter the contract terms to make the goals easier to obtain. By doing this, students can obtain their rewards at a faster, more frequent rate. Once they demonstrate that they can consistently engage in the appropriate behavior, teachers can gradually increase the complexity of the replacement behavior or reduce the rate of reward delivery. ► Terms of Use ◄ This artwork is copyrighted by Roots To Growth. An assembly focusing on the dangers of fake news, how we recognise fake news and the importance of being aware of it. The assembly explores the fact that it was Hitler who invented the idea of fake news and then examines how he used it to gain power and control the public, before comparing it to the way politicians use fake news today. I have outlined a couple of key features in the book. • I have given each character a name that starts with a different letter – student who sign can learn the signs for each character and recognise the letter for each. • I have numbered the houses from 1 to 10 giving students the opportunity to count, count out objects (maybe houses). • I have given each house a different colour so that students could be asked questions about colour of house. • I have given each character different colour clothes so that students can be asked about colour of clothes. • I have made the drawings simple and tried to make each character different – colour/style of hair etc so that students can comment on who that character is. • Each page contains a line/verse that has the same syllables/structure. I find students with special needs like the rhythm and structure of a book and can become engaged by this. I have found ‘Call and Response’ method of reading for students particularly engaging for vocal and non-vocal students. Read the line, then students (with staff) to read the same line. Sign each line which is good for non-vocal and vocal students also as they learn signs with repetition of each verse. • The book contains answer cards which I would like teachers/parents/guardians to cut out laminate and stick to answer laminate boards. Again very simple but give students the ability to comment on the following questions.  What is the colour of Luke’s house?  What colour is Hope’s clothes?  What number house does Max live in?  What does Tal like doing?  Who lives in house number 3?  Who likes playing football?  Use sentence strips to create short sentences ‘Tal lives in number 2’. ‘Tal likes to drum’. Students who are able to write can copy these sentences. • The concept of ‘he’ and ‘she’ can be difficult for some students and this can be discussed also ‘What does he like to do?’ etc. • Activities are so important for students with special needs and these characters are all doing activities that can be accessed by students during their lessons and using their experiences to engage and comment – experience activity, take photos include in literacy lessons etc.
