KS3 Science Teaching Pack: Shock Horror Science: Chemistry

KS3 Science Teaching Pack: Shock Horror Science: Chemistry

The horror story ‘Frankenstein’ was published in 1818. At the same time that the author Mary Shelley was writing her scary novel, scientists of the day were experimenting with electricity, and how to make batteries. One particularly creepy experiment involved passing electricity through dead bodies, making them quiver and twitch, and even sit upright. Some people thought the corpses were coming back to life. Mary Shelley knew all about these experiments, and used them to inspire her writing. In this lesson students make a simple electric cell from a potato and two pieces of metal and investigate how the distance between the electrodes affects the size of the electric current produced.

AQA C1-C5 Revision Chemistry 1 Paper

AQA C1-C5 Revision Chemistry 1 Paper

A PPT made up of 107 slides to cover the content required for units C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5. The PPT is in the form of a quiz, with answers availble on the slides. There are however a couple of questions without answers. I have planned this for a Triple Science class, however, most of it is suitable for Combined Chemistry. This should take between 2-3 hours to go through. (I am teaching it tomorrow morning prior to the Chemistry exam and have a total of three hours to get through it with my class).

Compound Chemistry Quiz

Compound Chemistry Quiz

Quiz used for a form-time activity with Y7, though it could be used with any group. The answers were around the room on various compound chemistry posters, although you could do this using laptops, with students finding the answers on the compound interest website! 2 of the answers came from the student passports for the group that were stuck on the wall, so you will need to change those questions.
