La convivencia: notas de revisión (new AL2 AQA)

La convivencia: notas de revisión (new AL2 AQA)

Revision notes on multilingualism and multiculturalism in Spain (linked to peaceful coexistence); ways to promote "la convivencia escolar", including the context of Hispanic students in the USA,etc. There is also a section on threats to peaceful coexistence, such as ciberislamophobia, separatism, ETA and corruption. I have included some notes on the gypsies in Spain, slightly altered from what I included in the notes for "El racismo". This is so that students can make the conexion between both themes. Happy teaching and learning! Blanca

La Guerra Civil (planeando el golpe de estado)

La Guerra Civil (planeando el golpe de estado)

1) Put the conversation in order 2) Put the correct English next to the messages in Spanish. This provides a good timeline for the coup d'etat. The conversations were made by a Spanish newspaper, once I remember I'll put the credit in.

Monarquías y dictaduras: notas de revisión (new AL2)

Monarquías y dictaduras: notas de revisión (new AL2)

This is a very dense topic so I have created a set of concise notes to help students digest key information. As part of the notes, there is a brief summary of films about the war and key dictators in Latinoamerica. The notes would be useful to prepare speaking cards, as a starting point for the IRP or for backgroud knowledge of some cultural topics (El Laberinto, for example). They are also useful for end of unit revision or final exams. The format is deliberately simple to aid adaptation. Your comments are always welcome. Happy teaching and learning! Blanca

Speaking cards, general questions and photos Monarquías y dictaduras (New AL2)

Speaking cards, general questions and photos Monarquías y dictaduras (New AL2)

This compilation of cards includes sub-themes such as the exile of children during the Civil War, bringing down Franco's statues, the economic boom during Franco times, Letizia as a plebeian, etc., in one word, as much variety as possible, all within range! The general questions are followed by a selection of photographs to be used as preparation for presentations, or as a starting point for the IRP. I feel at this point of the course, students should be able to work from visual stimuli on their own! I have also published a set of revision notes to accompany the cards (if you deem it necessary). Please leave a comment if you purchase this resource. Your feedback is very helpful to me. Happy teaching and learning! Blanca

Auroville - A2 Revision (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing)

Auroville - A2 Revision (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing)

I was lucky enough to find a story I can relate to most of the topics covered in the AQA A2 exam. It is some info about a place called Auroville (in India) and the idea seems fascinating to me and fortunately my students liked it too so feel free to have a look and use it in your lessons if you find it useful. There is a bit of everything: Short intro, Reading, Listening (+transcription), Speaking, Writing + some activities. Topics that can be included: ENVIRONMENT, THE MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY, CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL ISSUES. And for that reason I think it is perfect for a quick revision. Comments always welcomed!

Spanish Lesson Plan - Language through Music - Song: Ella y El by Ricardo Arjona

Spanish Lesson Plan - Language through Music - Song: Ella y El by Ricardo Arjona

The idea of Language Through Music is to learn Spanish by looking at modern popular hits from the Latin American music world. Songs are chosen following a specific criteria. They will generally cover topics of historical/social/political interest tackling issues affecting modern Latin American society, thereby creating opportunity for discussion and practice of oral skills. Furthermore it this gives the teacher the possibility interlink a wider ranger of activities within the same lesson/set of lesson. Some songs may be chosen due to a particularly interesting use of language and/or presence of particular expressions that are worth looking at in detail. Due to copyright reasons I cannot include the original audio file with the material, however all of the songs will be widely available on the net/Youtube/iTunes and I will provide a working link. The use of realia such modern songs in the learning process will give the student more of a feel of real-world application of his language skills as well as an enriching cultural experience in itself. Spanish lesson plan for up to 3 hours. In depth analysis of the song "Ella y El" by the popular Guatemalan songwriter Ricardo Arjona. This song touches a number of topics but the main one regards the Cuban Embargo and Cuba's social/political history during the last 50 years. Includes: - Full Lyrics text of the song - Comprehension questions relating to the content of the text - 2 pages of exercises aimed at developing a deeper understanding of the expressions and metaphors used in the song. - Reading comprehension text "La Historia del Bloqueo en Cuba" - Set of questions related to the text. - A Mind map outlining important points for a class discussion on the topic. Youtube link for the song: https://youtu.be/K6PXwxi4eJI ANSWER SHEET is not included cause many questions are discussion based however if you require answer guidelines I will be happy to provide you with a free copy.

El terrorismo / ETA - Terrorism in Spain

El terrorismo / ETA - Terrorism in Spain

Context of looking at global issues. A powerpoint outlining the origins of ETA in Spain and their purpose, goes along with a reading comprehension. This is based on an article I found on El Mundo and adapted. The questions I've designed to go with the comprehension are based around exam style reading papers and include finding synonyms / translation and putting ideas into your own words. Hope it helps! :)

Several resources Guerra Civil & life under Franco

Several resources Guerra Civil & life under Franco

Feedback is welcome, hope this helps. This is NOT ENTIRELY MY WORK, however, I have adapted it, made it slightly easier for my pupils and presented it better. There are general reading for info and some worksheets. One activty I got from TES, 'la vida bajo Franco card sort' but it was originally in English and I've translated it into Spanish. The PPT about 'la dictadura' and 'Guerra 2' activities are my own. La Guerra 2, check when you print it because an extra arrow on the map usually prints out but I can&'t find it on the document.

Lessons 1+2 Guerra Civil Intro & Types Government

These resources are NOT ALL MY OWN WORK, however, I have adapted them and made them into exercises/informative materials that my 6th Form can understand. Info is taken from websites, the presentation was originally from TES but on the large majority I've added or checked the Spanish is correct or changed it to make it easier for my pupils. Comments are appreciated and if anyone else has anything on this topic, that is also appreciated.

Carta del Frente de Aragón

Carta del Frente de Aragón

Una carta del frente de Aragón: Los alumnos identifican que las palabras en negrillo son verbos y contestan a las preguntas. Recomiendo que vean una parte de la película 'Tierra y Libertad' de Ken Loach o el documental 'The Spanish Civil War' de Granada antes de leer el texto.

Spain - national anthem

Spain - national anthem

This PowerPoint activity is for Years 7-9 which have Spain as the country they will represent on Sports Day. They will be doing a range of activities in form time, including this quiz, learning about one specific aspect of cultural interest, doing an introduction into the language, listening to the national anthem and perhaps trying to learn a couple of chants. We have 11 form entry so 3 forms have Spain (Y7,8,9) and there are 10 other countries. Could be useful for the World Cup. Video versions of anthem are on YouTube.
