About Queen Elizabeth's High School
First established in 1589, Queen Elizabeth’s High School (QEHS) is a grammar school located in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. The school has been a co-educational grammar school since 1983, when the two single-sex schools merged into a single institution. As a state grammar school, QEHS is academically selective in its admissions but there are no tuition fees to pay. With around 1200 pupils on roll in a co-educational setting with students aged between 11-18, the school is larger than most secondary schools, with well over 200 students in the Sixth Form. Queen Elizabeth’s has seen extensive modernisation and development over the years.

Values and Vision
We proudly celebrate and promote: Tradition, Achievement, and Opportunity. These core values revolve around ensuring our students are well cared for, academically challenged and afforded access to a broad range of fulfilling and enriching co-curricular activities. As a result, students at QEHS feel safe, flourish within an environment of academic rigour, and develop interests and skills which will go on to serve them well throughout their lives.
On a day-to-day basis we promote these values by applying our QEHS Learner Standards:
- Behaviour for Learning
- Learning to Learn
- Leadership for Learning
At Queen Elizabeth's High School, we aim for high standards in all we do.
- We strive to fulfil the potential of each student.
- We aim to achieve this through a carefully planned, broad education in which enthusiastic teachers use a variety of teaching styles in activities inside and outside the classroom.
- We aim to maintain a friendly and caring atmosphere in which students and staff share a mutual respect.
- When they leave QEHS, we want students to be well-balanced adults, inspired to continue their learning and able to contribute positively to society.
- QEHS is committed to the highest possible standards of child protection.
In short, at QEHS we aim to offer an outstanding education and to be the destination of choice for academic excellence.
