Our Vision

We seek to be recognised as a school that secures excellence in academic achievement, personal growth and professional development. We focus on the needs of the individual through a commitment to every student, every subject and every grade. We believe that there should be no ceiling on ambition and that potential can be realised in all our students, irrespective of background or ability. We aspire to place a deep sense of care and support at the heart of our school.

Our Values

We are a values driven school and these behaviours are a constant in what we expect of ourselves, our students and our families; ‘we care, we aim high, we achieve together and we lead the way.’ Over the five years, our students make considerable strides towards adulthood. We have three key aims for them:

  • To become successful learners
  • To become confident individuals
  • To become responsible citizens

Our aims:

• To ensure our students become conscientious and resilient so that they thrive as learners

• To prepare students for 21st century adulthood through the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum

• To be recognised as a centre of excellence for teaching and learning

• To flourish as an inclusive school that prepares our students to be responsible citizens

• To ensure that all pastoral structures and systems of support are designed to help students be confident with high self-esteem

• To recognise leadership at all levels and across all areas of school life

• To equip our students to have the skills and emotional intelligence to be able to adapt or succeed in an ever-changing society

Our MOTTO:

"Be Outstanding"

Ofsted (October 2021)

The Inspectors noted how the continual drive for improvement in terms of the quality of education ensured that subject leaders have designed curriculum plans that clearly outline what pupils need to learn – and when. Teachers have strong subject knowledge and design learning that helps pupils to remember the curriculum and important knowledge from previous lessons. The detailed and effective curriculum planning means that pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND, know more and remember more across the curriculum.

The inspection report also recognises how the school has strong roots in personal development and how we have worked hard to ensure our pupils are provided with many opportunities to become well-rounded citizens. The inspection team explained that the pupils at Standish benefited from a well-sequenced and age-appropriate personal, social, health education (PSHE) curriculum in addition to a range of appropriate guidance in order to prepare them for the next stage of their education, employment or training.

Inspectors highlighted many key strengths of our school, – some of which are listed below:

· Pupils strive to live up to ‘The Standish Way’. This outlines leaders’ high expectations for students to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

· Pupils enjoy a range of clubs and activities, such as sports and reading clubs. Pupils value the ‘LGBT club’ that provides a voice for the school’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

· Leaders are ambitious for all pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

· Pupils told inspectors that bullying rarely happens.

· Pupils behave well – they say staff deal with any rare incidents of misbehaviour quickly and effectively.

· Pupils achieve well across the school.

· Safeguarding is effective at Standish Community high school. Pupils develop a strong understanding of the risks they may face. Leaders adapt the PSHE curriculum regularly to alert pupils to potential risks.

· Staff value leaders’ strong regard for their workload and well-being. Staff appreciate that leaders often say ‘thank you’.

· Governors and trustees are ambitious for the school – they provide leaders with effective challenge and support.

When I think about Standish High School, I think of how this school has built and developed my confidence over the years, I came here alone with nobody else from my primary school but thanks to the way this excellent school is run, I can say I’m a more confident person today than ever before! This school is constantly out performing other local schools and that’s all down to the effort and attitude of the staff.

The teacher/parent communication has been fantastic in my experience. In Year 7 it was important to me that I kept in regular contact with my child’s teacher for a couple of subjects. I’m pleased to say that weekly communication was encouraged by the school, quickly established and concerns dealt with. Parent/teacher communication is a worry for parents when children move from primary to high school, but I have found the staff at Standish to be extremely accessible and very responsive.

I think Standish Community High School is a great school because I feel safe and happy every day. I think the sporting facilities and opportunities are excellent and offer a great variety of activities to participate in.
