Job overview

We are looking for a highly organised, efficient and dedicated individual to join us as an Admissions Officer.

The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical and extra-curricular activities.

About the role

The Bishop of Llandaff is a voluntary aided school, with a religious character. This means that it is its own employer and, in the context of school admissions, is an admissions authority in its own right. The school is heavily oversubscribed. We admit 180 students in each year group (Year 7 – 11) and these are broken down into ‘foundation’ places (of which there are 150) and ‘community’ places (30). However, over the last eight years, the school receives well over 400 applications for places. As a result, this requires careful administration of the process so that applications are accurately placed against the set criteria. Within our sixth form, we have approximately 300 students. The vast majority of these students are made up of existing Year 11 students. However, we do receive a number of applications from students in other local schools.

As an admissions authority, the school is bound by the Welsh Government statutory code for admissions. Therefore, the appointed person would work directly with the Headteacher, other key staff and the governors’ admissions sub-committee (and chair specifically) to ensure the efficient operations of admissions. A copy of our admissions processes and policies can be found on our school website. The existing post-holder is retiring after 30 years of dedicated service to the school. Therefore, we recognise the importance of a smooth transition to support any new member of the team and the start date will enable some joint-working prior to their departure. We believe the role would suit someone who is highly efficient, with an ‘eye for detail’ and strong communication skills. Someone who likes working with people and has strong decision-making skills.

Closing date for applications: 11th February at 12 noon.
