Job overview

Main Purpose of the Job 

To manage ‘Alternative Learning’ as on site provision, which supports students with their learning needs and promotes positive behaviours enabling students to  re-engage with school. Supporting students to understand the school boundaries and requirements and managing their emotions and actions. Equipping students with the strategies to put this into practice.

Specific responsibilities 

1. The day to day management of the Alternative Learning  provision including safeguarding, planning and marking  work/activities, supporting students carry out assessments etc.  

2. To ensure every child within the provision is championed and all departments are coordinated in the support of each student.  

3. To be able to conduct intervention with students to support them with their learning and  progress.  

4. To use excellent behaviour management skills and techniques to maintain high expectations of young  people in the provision.  

5. To establish positive and professional working relationships with students, parents, carers, SLT and external agencies.  

6. To ensure every student is placed on a Personal Support Plan and that these are held in conjunction with the Head of Year.

7. To maintain and input student performance and behaviour data and use this information to inform  reporting to stakeholders such as SLT.  

8. To line manage a team of Alternative Learning Mentors who will assist with running the Alternative Learning provision.  

9. To be aware of and comply with Academy policies and procedures relating to child protection, health,  safety, security and confidentiality reporting all concerns to an appropriate person to ensure students’  wellbeing.  

10. To contribute to the overall work/aims of the Academy and appreciate and support the role of  colleagues and other professionals to enable them to realise its development plans etc.  

11. To undertake training and other learning activities and attend relevant meetings (within contracted  hours) as required to ensure own continuing professional development.  

12. To be familiar with, and comply with a full range of Academy policies and procedures relating to child  protection, health and safety, security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate  person to ensure students’ wellbeing.  

13. To attend departmental meetings by arrangement. 

General

All Academy staff are expected to:

c) Support and contribute to the Academy’s responsibility for safeguarding students; d) Work within the Academy’s health and safety policy to ensure a safe working environment for staff,  students and visitors; 

e) Work within the Academy’s Diversity Policy to promote equality of opportunity for all students and staff,  both current and prospective; 

f) Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and positive  courteous relations with students, parents and colleagues; 

g) Engage actively in the performance review process; 

h) Adhere to Academy policies and procedures as set out in the staff handbook or other documentation  available to all staff.
