A rare opportunity has arisen for an outstanding and experienced senior leader at Westminster Under School to play a pivotal role in the School’s pursuit of academic excellence.
The Assistant Master (Teaching and Learning) will promote the ethos of academic rigour, engagement and perseverance and lead on professional development for teachers across the School.
As a core member of the Senior Management Team, they will represent the interests of the academic life of the School and will develop, refine and implement the School’s policies and procedures, taking particular responsibility for Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Policy, Policy on SEND, Policy on EAL and the Careers Policy.
The successful candidate will teach a reduced timetable and will have excellent teaching and classroom management skills. An infectious enthusiasm, an engaging personality and a creative approach to the delivery of the curriculum are all essential for this role.
In addition, the successful applicant must be willing to participate fully in the various extra-curricular activities – both academic and cultural. Applications are encouraged from both the maintained sector and the independent sector.
About the School
Westminster Under School has been in existence since 1943, providing an independent preparatory education for boys aged 7 to 13.
Since 1981, the Under School has been situated in Vincent Square, Westminster, overlooking the School’s playing fields. Our central London location is a huge asset, adding a significant cultural dimension to the education of our 285 boys.

About Westminster Under School
Westminster Under School is a great environment for happy and purposeful pupils. Our aim is to produce well-rounded individuals with a love of learning and an enthusiasm for life. Westminster Under School is a day school with approximately 260 pupils aged between 7 and 13. The Under School was founded in 1943 in the precincts of Westminster School in Little Dean’s Yard, just behind Westminster Abbey. The 17 boys with whom it began rapidly became 60 in number and by 1950 there were 80 boys in the Under School. The boys had to compete for space with the senior school pupils who had returned from evacuation at the end of the war, but in 1951 the Under School acquired its own premises in Eccleston Square. Numbers of pupils continued to rise during the 1960s and 1970s and in 1981 the School moved once again to its present site overlooking the Westminster playing fields in Vincent Square.
