Job overview

The roles of our Caretakers are varied and wide ranging and require flexibility as the school operates during the school holidays and in the evenings. 

They will ensure that allocated tasks are completed to a high standard and in a thorough and timely manner. To provide cover, where possible, in the absence of other team members. To take a flexible approach to your working day, in order to meet the requirements and demands of a consistently evolving school life. To liaise and communicate clearly with the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, and fellow team members and staff.

 

General Duties:

·        The set up and removal of event furniture

·        Delivering post between sites

·        Site Security and providing Out of Hours Access to buildings

·        Site Management (Rubbish Bins/Litter Picking/Lawn Mowing/Hedge Cutting/Leaf Blowing/Snow and Ice Clearance)

·        Accepting and putting away deliveries

·        Conducting Fire Alarm and Emergency Light Testing and recording of results

·        Taking utility meter readings and recording results

·        Providing access and supervision for attending contractors

·        Cleaning of School Vehicles

·        Minor maintenance tasks as per skill set

·        Driving of school vans/minibuses

·        Ad-Hoc assistance on request when attending a site

·        Any other task reasonably delegated by Facilities and Maintenance Manager

        

Place of Work

You will be based at The Swan Building at 111 Banbury Road, however you will be responsible for the School’s facilities provision across all of its buildings. You will therefore need to spend time moving between and working in the School’s various teaching and residential buildings on a regular basis.

 

Working Conditions

·        Frequent local travel required between School sites.

·        Sitting for limited periods of time.

·        Driving School vehicles (driving license essential)

·        Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and to handle computers.

·        Occasionally working at height (once having attended a suitable course).

·        Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects (having attended a suitable course).

 

Hours

This is a full-time appointment of 37.5 hours per week, with a half hour for lunch. 

Your actual working hours will be agreed with the Maintenance and Facilities Manager and may be amended from time to time, to reflect the evolving demands of school life. You will need to be flexible and on occasion be available to work evenings and weekends.   


Salary

The salary for this position will be dependent on experience.

THE SCHOOL

d’Overbroeck’s is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Oxford for students aged 11 – 18. The school roll currently stands at around 750, and this is set to grow in the coming years.

Founded in 1977, initially as a Sixth Form, d’Overbroeck’s has maintained its founding values throughout its growth.

We believe in outstanding teaching and laughter. We celebrate the individual and foster a culture that promotes collaboration and originality. We pride ourselves on our unique blend of social informality and academic rigour.

d’Overbroeck’s consists of three sections:

Years 7-11 – 200 students; currently all day students although open to boarders from next year. Based at Leckford Place, OX2 6HX.

Sixth Form – 440 students; a mixture of day and boarding. Domestic and international. Based at a purpose-built site at 333 Banbury Road.

The International School – around 125 international students who are all boarders, across years 9-11.

All in all, this is a busy and happy educational environment in which staff and students enjoy positive relationships based on mutual respect and a shared sense of purpose. As our most recent ISI inspection report puts it:

‘A defining characteristic of d’Overbroeck’s is its close-knit, informal atmosphere within which students grow in confidence, self-esteem, respect for themselves and for others. Students are very supportive of each other and behaviour throughout is excellent, exemplified in considerate, warm relationships.

In its key findings, our most recent inspection report (2021) found that our students are highly motivated with extremely positive attitudes to learning. They were described as successful collaborative learners who are naturally inclusive. They were said to have a remarkably strong sense of self understanding and excellent awareness of how to improve and achieve their goals.
