Job overview

Due to the expansion of our already successful provision, Cumberland School are seeking to appoint an experienced instructor for construction. This new role will be based at our Key Stage 4 Centre, due to open in January 2020. Our new bespoke provision is designed to provide our pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in their future lives. It will enhance our ability to offer packages tailored to meet pupils’ needs and to help them further their aspirations.

As a member of staff at our school, you’ll have superb leadership, specialist support and state-of-the-art-facilities, allowing you to focus on delivering an innovative and engaging teaching programme. You will be committed to fulfilling the potential of each and every one of our young people, a diverse group of pupils with a range of complex learning needs, social and emotional di?culties and challenging behaviours.

You will have on the job experience in the construction sector and ideally a relevant teaching qualification or willingness to work towards completing one within two years. You will develop work placement opportunities with local employers to help our young people put their skills into practice. Ideally, you’ll have experience of dealing with complex education needs, as you’ll need to connect with our young people – understanding what makes them unique and working to make a real difference to their social and emotional development. But none of this fazes you, as it’s what you’re passionate about and why you’ll fit right in.

At our new site, we will provide our pupils with the opportunity to access both GCSEs and a wide range of quality vocational qualifications, at a site with all the specialist resources they need. We will help our young people develop independence and resilience so they feel prepared and ready for their next steps in education and future life. You will be an integral part of this.

For children and young people with complex, challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us, here at Witherslack Group. We are a leading provider of specialist education and care for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, communication difficulties, complex learning needs and challenging behaviours. We have a reputation for excellence and of achieving the highest possible outcomes. In short, we’re enhancing life opportunities.
