Counsellor 0.64 FTE 25.5 hours per week

Term Time only (40 Weeks) 

Salary: £22,347 per annum (pro-rated salary) 

Working across New City College including Havering College of Further & Higher Education, Havering Sixth form College and Rainham Construction & Engineering campus. 

The College is seeking an experienced counsellor to provide support to students.

If so, we are looking for an enthusiastic team player to join our newly formed Mental Health & Wellbeing team of dedicated professionals.  This is a rare opportunity to join a team in the early stages of its development and be a part of its journey to success. 

The successful applicant will be educated to degree level and will have a recognised professional counselling qualification as well as membership of a recognised professional body such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

You will demonstrate effective interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills and have significant experience of offering individual counselling/psychotherapy. You will have experience of working with individuals from different cultures, disabilities, sexual orientations and ages, preferably within a further/higher education setting. You may also have experience of providing clinical supervision for counsellors and may have undertaken supervision training.

The duties and responsibilities include working as a part of the Mental Health & Wellbeing team of mental health advisers and counsellors, contributing to the development of support services at New City College. As a member of this team, you will triage clients to the appropriate service, ensuring the safeguarding of all learners.  You will provide short term counselling to individual learners for whom this would be beneficial to their wellbeing and success in their studies.  You will provide drops ins and regular focused group work.  You will liaise with independent guidance services and external agencies to ensure learner access to appropriate internal and external referral sources.
