Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, creative and passionate teacher to continue to drive Music and Performing Arts forward at Stroud, King Edward VI Preparatory School, and to ensure that the performing arts retain their place as a central and highly valued part of our prep school offering. The successful candidate will teach Music and Performing Arts from Year 2 to Year 6 with a generous allocation of PPA time.

You will have a proven track record of delivering Music and Performing Arts to a high standard at the primary level and will be undaunted by the prospect of a busy calendar of events for pupils, parents and the wider community; this includes our annual carol service at Romsey Abbey, termly concerts and plays and a more significant Year 6 production held in the theatre at our senior school, King Edward VI, Southampton. Outstanding communication and organisation skills are requisites for the role, as is the ability to manage peripatetic staff and collaborate effectively with colleagues at the Prep School and our Senior School.

Stroud, King Edward VI Preparatory School is a thriving and happy co-ed independent school for pupils from Nursery to Year 6, and is the feeder school to King Edward VI, Southampton. The prep school enjoys the many benefits of being part of a 3-18 organisation whilst retaining a unique identity as a rural school with a strong family feel.

Stroud School has its own salary scale, choice of Teachers’ Pension Scheme or generous Defined Contribution scheme, Private Medical Insurance and Health Cash Plan and a reduction in school fees.

Further details and application forms are available from our website Employment Opportunities - Stroud School (kes.school) or contact HR by email: hr@kes.hants.sch.uk or telephone 02380 704561.

Closing date: 9am on Friday 17 February 2023

Interviews: week commencing 27 February 2023

CVs are not an acceptable alternative to the school application form.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with the Disclosure & Barring Service and past employers.

Our ethos is to nurture and support our pupils, so that they flourish and exceed their expectations in their learning, interests, relationships and emotional development. Our goal is that they become intellectually curious, resilient, confident and ready for their next steps.

Pupils have access to a wide range of high quality learning resources at Stroud including a well-stocked library, science laboratory, IT suites, cookery, art, technology and music rooms. Interactive whiteboards, iPads, virtual reality headsets and green screens also enhance pupils’ learning.

Stroud is a warm and welcoming place to work and develop as an individual and leader. We encourage staff to take on positions of responsibility and value our staff highly for going above and beyond to support the wider life of the school.

Due to our rural location we cannot easily be accessed by public transport, so staff do need their own transport. On site parking is available.
