Job overview

This role is advertised on behalf of Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub

Due to the growth of the Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, we are delighted to be expanding our Teaching School team. We have a fantastic opportunity to appoint an Early Career Teacher Co-ordinator to join us in April 2022 on a part-time basis (0.6-0.8fte). Our Early Career Teacher Co-ordinator will support our Head of Early Career Teacher Training with our rapidly expanding ECT offer.

This is a ‘once in a career’ opportunity for a middle leader looking to move into system leadership. Although based at our Head Office in Strood, as part of our expanding Teaching School Hub wider leadership team you will spend much of your time visiting our partner schools. You will work closely with ECTs, Mentors and Induction Tutors to support colleagues in ensuring that the Induction Programme and assessment is impactful and effective. You will support ECTs with embedding best practice in teaching and learning, and mentors and induction tutors in evidencing excellence in support and assessment.

This role will provide the postholder with the opportunity to engage with schools across our region, impacting on the lives of hundreds of new teachers, working closely with head teachers and mentors. You will also ensure that the functions of the Appropriate Body are carried out to the highest standard, ensuring that colleagues entering our profession benefit from a golden thread of continued excellent professional development, from ITT into their future leadership journeys.

You will need to be an effective administrator, as central to this work is the management and analysis of the ECT Manager registration portal, and supporting schools to use this effectively is a key component of the role.

Within the role you will need to develop an excellent working knowledge of the Statutory Guidance for Induction in order to ensure schools are fully meeting their Statutory obligations. You will need to be a confident communicator to ensure high standards of performance are upheld within the induction process and tailor the support you give schools to ensure positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

The world of system leadership is constantly changing and a willingness to work to challenging deadlines with a flexible approach is essential. You may currently be a middle leader, experienced in supporting ECTs within your own organisation, or a dynamic mentor looking for a leadership opportunity.

About Leigh Academies Trust

Leigh Academies Trust is one of the country’s largest and most-established multi-academy trusts operating across Kent, Medway and South East London. It contains primary, secondary and special academies and is highly inclusive and successful. Our mission is to deliver “education for a better world” by ensuring that young people in our academies have an excellent start in life regardless of their background or ability.

We are a non-profit making charitable company, based in Strood, Medway. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to academy status.

The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. Today, we encompass more than 20,000 students between the ages of 2 months and 19 in over 30 primary, secondary and special academies including one all-through academy and one grammar school.

In addition to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all of our children, aged from 2 months to 19 years, and their families, we are proud to provide many opportunities for lifelong learning.  These are delivered through the organisations under our umbrella: Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, LAT Apprenticeships and Kent and Medway Training (KMT), which delivers routes into teaching. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.
