Job overview

Harrow Shanghai is looking to appoint a dynamic, highly-skilled and inspiring new Head of Lower School from August 2023. He/She will have wide-ranging strategic input into, and leadership of, the continued delivery of excellence within the Lower School (Early Years and Pre-Prep, through to the end of Year 4). The post-holder will also enjoy a wider strategic influence across all facets of the Harrow educational experience as a standing member of the Senior Leadership Team, in addition to the whole-school Academic and Pastoral Leadership Groups.

This exciting opportunity within one of the world's most energetic, cosmopolitan and diverse 21st century cities, is very well suited to present middle and senior leaders both in the UK and overseas who have the necessary experience, skills, values and ambition to not only reinforce the Lower School's very high standards and reputation, but to build upon them further.

Candidates who have proven leadership capabilities as a high-performing Key Stage Coordinator/Assistant Head/Deputy Head or Head within a UK or overseas primary or prep setting are strongly encouraged to apply.

Officially opened by HRH Prince Edward, the School was launched in September 2016 and its roll is growing annually throughout all phases: Early Years, Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior Schools. The pupils, who are simply a delight to teach, follow the English National Curriculum and go on to study IGCSEs and A Levels. Upper Sixth leavers progress onto many of the most competitive universities across the globe, including Oxbridge.

Harrow is, however, about much more than simply outstanding academic results and our pupils excel in a multitude of fields including music, drama, sport and the arts, as well as involving themselves in service to the local community. The School combines the enduring core elements of the educational philosophy, practice and traditions of Harrow School in London, alongside the very modern international mindedness of a diverse and ambitious pupil body.

The successful candidate can expect a generous salary, a performance-related bonus, accommodation, medical and flight benefits and an unusual 100% tuition fees remission for up to two dependents (50% for any further children thereafter).

Moreover, working within the prestigious AISL Harrow Group of schools, which works very closely with Harrow London and is expanding rapidly, will provide an ideal opportunity for career development and further promotion for the appointed candidate.
