About Role

Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong seeks a well-qualified, caring and committed Head of University and Careers Counselling, with experience of working in an international context. The position is to start in August 2023, however the start date can be earlier by negotiation for the right candidate. This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a strong and forward-looking team in one of Asia’s most established and reputable international schools.

Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong is a high-performing, market-leading international school in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. We were the first of the Dulwich College International family of schools opening our doors in 2003. Since then we have grown to become the school of choice in the city.

Post-holder Qualifications, Experience

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

As the Head of University and Careers Counselling within Dulwich, you will serve as an integral part of the student journey through the leadership, development and implementation of the university and careers program. This role is pivotal in supporting students by engaging all relevant stakeholders in providing programming and services to students in order to ensure individual pathway development and entitlement for all students to support future goals. The University and Careers Counsellors act as a link to all relevant departments to gain an in-depth understanding of student ambitions, abilities and goals that are essential in supporting students and families in career, university and post-secondary planning. You will promote and nurture a culture focused on growth, purpose, and a sense of belonging to help students find their best fit for the future and to be their best selves. You will also become part of an exciting educational organisation, that encourages individual attention on the student, supporting families through transitions and staff engagement through professional learning and interactions.

  1. Have a relevant qualification/certification in university & careers counselling and at least two years of relevant experience working within a secondary school setting 
  2. Have relevant experience in an international school setting with experience working interdepartmentally to embed university and careers programming
  3. Have a deep working knowledge of US, UK, European, Singapore, Hong Kong, Canadian, Australian admissions processes and systems 
  4. Have classroom and curriculum development experience to lead robust university and career programming
  5. Have experience working with international students and families with a deep, working knowledge of the importance of culturally responsive practice
  6. Liaise as appropriate with outside agencies and community members to support all areas of programming
  7. Have experience with university admissions testing for US and UK admissions, including serving as test site supervisor for ACT/SAT
  8. Have working knowledge of university application platforms 
  9. Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  10. Be flexible and able to meet deadlines 
  11. Fulfil all pastoral, welfare, and supervisory duties effectively and willingly
  12. Role model a mindset of continuous development and improvement, to meet and exceed expectations
  13. Be committed to quality, attention to detail, and high standards

School Heritage

Welcome to Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong.

Our school is located within the leafy, vibrant Jinqiao area of East Shanghai with a thriving and diverse community. The first school in the Dulwich College International family of schools, we opened in 2003 with just 23 students. The College now educates approximately 1600 students from age 2 to age 18, with over forty different nationalities represented in our diverse student body.

Whilst have built a strong reputation for academic excellence, with our students achieving IB results well above the global average year on year, this is not at the expense of student wellbeing. Our school has a pastoral support team for students at all levels, and all of them follow a Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) course appropriate to their age and coordinated across the year groups. The relationships they form with their peers and with their teachers are critical for their education and for creating a safe learning environment for their growth.
