Position Information 

Broken Hill High School is a comprehensive high school with 519 students (22% Aboriginal) in Far West New South Wales. The school is proud of its academic, cultural and sporting achievements as well as catering for all students. The school has five support classes for students with intellectual disabilities. The school has an ongoing partnership and shares some senior curriculum with a neighbouring high school. Strong community ties are evident through the Parents and Citizens Committee as well as the “Golden Oldies” group, which is made up of past alumni who attended the school over fifty years ago. The school has a strong welfare focus and has implemented Positive Behaviour for Learning Strategies across the school. The Clontarf foundation has an academy at the school to assist Aboriginal boys with their education and career pathways.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
 
Approval to teach Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Community and Family Studies (CAFS) or Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation (SLR). 

Proven ability to lead the KLA in embedding aboriginal perspectives throughout the PDHPE curriculum to enhance the knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures for all students. 

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead staff in the development and implementation of high-quality differentiated programs, assessment and feedback to improve student engagement and achievement across all PDHPE related courses using evidence based teaching practices. 

Proven ability to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead improvement initiatives based on schoolwide data to achieve system negotiated targets with particular focus on student growth in literacy and numeracy, HSC performance, quality teaching and community engagement. 

Demonstrated ability to organise and lead a cohesive PDHPE faculty building teacher capacity and supporting staff at various stages of their career development. 

  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
