We are seeking a Headteacher to be responsible for the successful strategic development and direction of Jupiter Primary School, providing the vision and effective leadership that will ensure high quality education for all its pupils and excellent standards of learning and achievement. The Headteacher will also contribute to the Trust as part of the extended Senior Leadership Team. 

We would like you to have:

• Qualified Teacher Status.

• A good honours degree in a relevant subject.

• Evidence of continuous professional development.

• Substantial experience in a senior leadership role, e.g. as a headteacher or deputy or assistant headteacher. 

• Evidence of managing and making a substantial contribution to the effective management of change. 

• Evidence of successful implementation of strategies to improve teaching and learning to raise the standards of achievement for all pupils. 

• Evidence of effective teaching, assessment and target setting.

• Ability to develop and implement strategies for school improvement, including data analysis, target setting and strategies for improving the quality of teaching and learning for pupils. 

• Ability to monitor performance management and manage effective professional development. 

• Effective use of ICT to support teaching and learning. 

• Effective management of pupils’ behaviour and attitudes to learning.

• Ability to work in partnership with other schools in order to meet pupil’s needs. 

• Ability to engage parents in their children’s learning and the work of the school.

• Ability to prioritise and manage time appropriately, with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines. 

• A track record of achieving challenging professional goals. 

• Flexibility and an ability to adapt to changing circumstances and new ideas.

• The ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and other members of the school community. 

• The ability to manage and resolve conflict. 

• Excellent time management skills and organisation. 

• A commitment to promoting equality of opportunity.

The School

Jupiter Primary School opened in 2014 since then the school has grown from Reception in the first year and has reached capacity with Y6 in 2020/21. The school has a reputation for being an important part of the community – a popular choice for local parents. The school is welcoming, friendly and purposeful with the children’s happiness, well-being and learning at the heart of  everything the school stands for. The school has gone through a period of change in the last year and is looking for a strong and experienced leader to  build on these changes to ensure the children continue to receive the very best education and opportunities possible.

Pupils

The school has a PAN of 420, with 392 currently on role.The school’s pupils are drawn, in the main, from local families,  largely from the direct community. The percentage of pupils qualifying for free school meals is 17%. The school  population is 72% White British and 14% of students have English as an additional language. 14.8% of students receive  SEND support and 1.4% have an EHCP.

Staff

Working at Jupiter Primary School means working with a talented and innovative team of teachers and support  staff, not least the Danes Educational Trust CEO, Dr Josephine Valentine. She has been a National Leader in Education since 2008 and is a member of the Department for  Education’s Headteacher Reference Group. The school is supported by the DET Central Services Team which covers school improvement, CPD, finance, HR,  governance, IT, resources, marketing and communications. Staff at the school benefit from favourable admissions arrangements for their children in an oversubscribed and popular institution.

Environment

The School sits on a large site in the north east of Hemel Hempstead, just 5 minutes from the M1, junction 8. The school  was built as a new-build and opened in 2014 under the government’s free school programme. It has good playground and field spaces. In addition, a new, separate 2 room building is due to be complete by  September 2021.  On site there is a private nursery provider, Squirrels, which leases purpose built nursery facilities from the School.
