will be governed by Mauritius Law.

Contract Term: One year with the possibility of being offered a permanent position based on

satisfactory performance.

Working hours: Full-time (18 hours per week, excluding overtime).

Post Title: OIB History and Geography Teacher

Job description:

  • The successful candidate will teach History and Geography in English to students of the British International Section (Option Internationale du Baccalauréat – OIB – French Baccalaureate with an International Option
  • From 2021 to 2022, the candidate will teach Years 7, 8, and 9 (6ème, 5ème et 4ème) As from 2022 to 2023, the candidate will also prepare Year 10 students (3ème) for the DNBI oral exams (Diplôme national du brevet – mention internationale)
  • As from 2023, the British International section will be implemented in High School (UK: Years 11, 12 and 13), culminating to the first OIB Baccalaureate in 2026.
  • The candidate will collaborate with English Language and Literature teachers in order to set up the syllabus, to ensure coordination of the British Section, and report to management.

Qualifications and experience

  • Excellent spoken and written British English - the minimum requirement is the C1 Level from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree or above in History and/or Geography, preferably from a University in the UK.
  • A PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification from the UK or an English-speaking country would be a significant asset.
  • Teaching experience either in an English-based curriculum school or in the British Section of a French International school.
  • Knowledge of the French Educational system would be an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, in a bicultural environment.
  • Mastery of the French language (B1-B2 Level) is desirable

Duties and responsibilities

  • Teach History and Geography in English to Middle School and High school students.
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on the learning needs, progress, and achievements of assigned students.
  • Provide ongoing guidance to students and their families.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for the development of appropriate syllabuses, schemes of work, standardisation procedures and teaching strategies within the British Section.
  • Collaborate and work together on the curriculum with colleagues who teach History and Geography in French as well as English language and Literature teachers.
  • Establish effective partnerships with Anglophone agencies, organizations, and institutions.

Salary: Negotiable (The salary will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and work

experience).
