Are you looking to join a dedicated and well-qualified central HR team supporting the work of some 2000 staff committed to delivering exceptional education?

If you are a dedicated and highly proficient generalist HR Officer looking to consolidate your practice in the education sector and progress to a HR Advisory position, with your own portfolio of schools, within 2-3 years, our HR Officer post provides the opportunity to take the next exciting step in your career.

WeST is a complex schools trust that is maturing rapidly, and this position provides an exciting opportunity to join an organisation with students and staff at its heart, built on an extensive track record of excellence.

Our Trust currently consists of 24 schools (secondary colleges and primary) and The Learning Institute (TLI).  These are in relatively close geographical proximity to one another, across South Devon, Plymouth and South-East Cornwall, and we are a stone’s throw from some of the most picturesque countryside and coastal locations in the UK.

Working in a fast-paced environment as part of the core HR Team, the post holders will provide advice and support on a broad range of employee relations matters, helping to ensure timely progression of queries and cases in line with Trust policies, employment legislation and best practice guidance. Stakeholder management is key and there will be a high level of interaction with customers at all levels in the provision of advice and guidance.

We are seeking strong team players with the ability to work on their own initiative and make judgements within the boundaries of the role, possessing a thorough knowledge across the broad range of HR practices and procedures acquired through training and experience.  You will have an excellent standard of verbal and written communication, being able to convey advice clearly and concisely, and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly develop successful working partnerships.

The Trust offers memberships of the Local Government Pension Scheme; a salary-related, defined benefit scheme and one of the most generous in the UK.

Initially this post is being advertised on a full-time basis however we would welcome applicants who wish to explore flexible working opportunities.

We would be keen to hear from dedicated and passionate HR professionals who are keen to progress their career in the education section as part of a HR service in a growing organisation.

For an informal discussion regarding this role please contact Jocelyn Davis, Director of People, on mob. 07799730789 or Louise Rowe, HR Business Partner on mob. 07796119874.

Applications forms are available from admin@westst.org.uk

For our HR Officer position, completed applications should be submitted to this address by 9am Monday 13th December.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this post.

The Westcountry Schools Trust is a tight knit family of schools based around natural geographical proximity in the South West. Formed in 2017, the WeST family currently consists of 26 schools, of which 7 are secondary and 19 primary.

WeST is an outward looking, multifaceted trust that operates in partnership with the RSC Office, Teaching School Council, numerous schools, Higher Education Institutions and employers across the South West and beyond. Indeed, we are proud that within WeST there is a cohort 1 Teaching School that has been effectively supporting children beyond our own boundaries for nearly a decade.

WeST is a cross-phase family of local schools that share a commitment to improving the lives of young people in our community. Collaborative working with other schools in our trust offers many benefits for students and staff; sharing best practice in teaching and learning, curriculum collaboration, extra-curricular opportunities, staff development, finance and human resources, legal services, school improvement structures and governance arrangements. We also believe that by working together we can make our money go further and keep school funding focused on teaching and learning.

Whilst the educational landscape has changed significantly in recent years we have always kept abreast of developments and responded in a manner that ensures our children always receive a first-class education. This does not mean that we jump to the tune of the latest ‘fad’ or initiative, but filter through what we believe will improve and enrich the experience our students enjoy.

We have a pride in our schools, staff and children, and thrive on the constant challenge to do better. All our children are our collective responsibility.

Rob Haring
