Could you make an impact with some of the most vulnerable learners in Hampshire?

An exciting opportunity has arisen as a result of our growing curriculum offer. We are currently looking to appoint Learning Coaches to be based predominantly at Swanwick Lodge. This is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in education or looking to make a career change or move into education.

Although you will be predominantly based at one setting, you will also be part of a larger education team working with colleagues across Hampshire Achieves. This role may mean that you deliver across the following settings: Austen House, Bluebird House and Leigh House.

Our settings have an on-site education area where young people are expected and encouraged to attend as part of their recovery programme. We design individual education programmes for our young people to help support their return to mainstream school or further education. Young people undertake recognised qualifications as part of a full education and enrichment offer. Learning Coaches work as a key part of a multi-disciplinary team to secure the best possible outcomes for our learners.

As a successful candidate, you will be committed to forming positive behaviours, helping young people to discover and fulfil their potential. You will also support a culture of safeguarding in which young people feel safe and flourish. This Learning Coach role involves supporting and facilitating teaching in KS3, 4 & 5. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate how they meet the role requirements in their letter of application, the application form and at interview.

This can be a hugely rewarding but emotionally challenging role and therefore strong resilience is required in order to ensure staff are able to get the best out of our learners at all times.

Hampshire Achieves

Hampshire Achieves’ Secure and Specialist Education Team provide education to psychiatric and residential provisions across Hampshire and are developing a specialised tutoring service for schools across the county, which supports learners unable to attend school. This is a team growing in breadth and expertise where the focus is on creating optimal conditions for learners to make progress, regardless of circumstance.

In joining the team we can guarantee you:

• Access to specialist staff with a range of expertise and experience.

• A friendly working environment where everyone is valued and opportunities for progression are explored.

• Opportunities to pursue the right educational choices through a learner centred lens.

• Opportunities to work across a range of specialist and secure settings and to develop specific areas of expertise.

• Access to high quality CPD delivered by experts.

• 4 weeks of directed CPD time when all settings are closed, in addition to contractual annual leave.

• A manageable workload which is flexible wherever possible and appropriate.

• A new challenge every day.

We are seeking those who have a passion for education and want to support learners in achieving their next steps. If you would like to be a part of this highly skilled and specialised team, then this could be the opportunity for you!

Swanwick Lodge

Swanwick Lodge is a secure, residential, 10-bedded children’s home managed by the local authority. It is intended for young people, male and female, between 10 and 17 years old who have been identified as needing their liberty restricted.

Those admitted may have complex needs and present a significant risk of harm to themselves or to others. The stabilisation model is used which focuses on a whole team, relationship-based approach to enabling the young person to achieve improved emotional stability and behaviour control.

Young people admitted to Swanwick Lodge are the subject of section 25 of the Children Act 1989 and placed by local authorities. The stays vary between 3 months and in excess of a year. Young people attending Swanwick Lodge are very likely to have had a disrupted educational journey and may have been out of education for significant periods of time.
