Job overview

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to join our close-knit team at Waterloo Lodge. If you are looking to join a dedicated team in a school that will welcome your ideas and aim to re-engage the young people we teach, we would like to hear from you.

Waterloo Lodge is an Outstanding independent SEN school based in Chorley, catering for 11-16-year olds. We accommodate pupils with SEMH requirements, offering a broad and balanced curriculum which can be tailored to individual needs.  The school offers a successful, therapeutic approach to re-engage pupils who’ve endured serious difficulties at their previous schools. We are committed to delivering a personalised curriculum, the derivation of which is based on thorough assessment of a pupil’s needs and preferences alongside their strengths and areas for development; pupils are provided with appropriate and challenging pathways. Waterloo Lodge School is part of the Acorn Care and Education Group, the second largest private sector provider of special needs education in the country operating 17 schools for children and young people who have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism.

About the Role

Working with our Teachers and Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for providing essential support to our SEN pupils with learning difficulties, behavioural, social and physical disabilities. You will build positive relationships with pupils to promote interaction and a constructive learning environment as well as assist the class teacher and other education staff with learning activities. Work is often carried outside of the classroom environment and you will have the opportunity to assist in the planning and delivery of lessons in a very creative and positive setting.

Our team Waterloo Lodge are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment. Smaller class sizes mean you can focus on building a purposeful learning environment that meets individual educational needs of pupils, helping to narrow the gap for pupils who are behind where they should be.

We are part of the Acorn Care and Education Group. We can promise you plenty of challenges, and a rich variety of opportunities to develop your career.

Who we are looking for?

No two days are the same at Waterloo Lodge so we want people who can work at pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and are motivated by working with children with complex needs. You will be motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children in a calm and engaging demeanour, whilst being resilient using an innovative style of teaching motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential.

Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be desirable, excellent support skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

If you are looking to join a dedicated team in a school that will welcome your ideas and aim to re-engage the young people we teach, we would like to hear from you.

Acorn Care and Education are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
