About Archbishop Tenison's School
Our History and Ethos
Archbishop Tenison’s School is a successful Voluntary-Aided, Church of England 11-19 Mixed School. We were founded in 1685 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Tenison and we are proud of our history. Our first home was at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square. Before the First World War, the school was based in Leicester Square and we moved to our current home at The Oval in 1929.
We have a long-standing Christian ethos, which effectively supports students’ personal development and well-being. The good behaviour of pupils and the respectful, caring relationships expressly linked to our Christian and inclusive foundation, leads to a real sense of belonging and community.
Our Core Values are “Compassion, Hard Work, Accountability, Respect and Trust” and we look forward to a year in which we are determined to follow through our vision of excellence, achievement and success.
We are confident that with the recruitment of excellent new staff, we will see attainment rise, along with rates of progress. The combination of academic success and excellent pastoral care allows all students to thrive and enables them to become independent young people.
Location
We are situated opposite the Oval Cricket ground, with excellent transport links: we are a five minute walk from Vauxhall Mainline, Tube and Bus Stations and a few minutes walk from Oval Tube Station.
We are close to central London, with all the art, cultural and sporting opportunities it offers. If you enjoy cricket, then you could not choose to work in a better location!
Facilities and Benefits
We have an on-site staff car park. There are also a number of exciting extra-curricular activities, which staff can be involved in, including theatre trips, PGL residentials and trips abroad supporting the curriculum.
The school offers cycle to work vouchers, childcare vouchers and interest-free season ticket loans. We have excellent on-site catering, which provide high quality, good value meals.
The Future
As a school, we recognise the Ofsted report and we have a clear direction for the school. We have made many internal structure changes and the school has excellent capacity to improve and to sustain its improvement. We recently had a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools Report, which rated us as 'Good' and the inspector found that the Consultant Headteacher is working effectively "to bring about rapid improvement especially with regards to increasing students' attainment and progress".
This is a popular school and the students want to be here: 92 applicants were received for 92 places for September 2017.
We look forward to welcoming outstanding candidates, who are keen to make a real difference and develop their careers at our welcoming and caring school.
