Job overview

Britain’s ‘IB School of the Year’ now open in Sydney

WESTBOURNE COLLEGE SYDNEY

Powerhouse/TAFE/UTS/’Innovation and Technology’ Precinct,

Ultimo, New South Wales

• Seeking the best Maths and Physics teacher for Years 11 & 12

• Academically elite. STEM-focused. IB-only. Co-ed

• Small cohorts of 30 max chosen for their ability AND attitude

• Current 2021 class 3-times oversubscribed

• Incoming 2022 class already ahead of 2021 target

• Start date: ASAP; January 2022 latest

• Pay and conditions second to none.

The UK’s 2019 ‘IB School of the Year’ – and 25th ranked school in the world in 2021 – opened a Sydney campus in January 2021, focusing solely on academically elite, highly motivated, STEM-focused Year 11 and 12 students (only) – co-ed – and who have already chosen to pursue their careers in STEM sectors, and on the global stage. And for all our success in the UK over many, many years, both the current 2021 and incoming 2022 classes are the best we have ever seen.

With the addition of the Year 12 cohort in 2022, we are seeking quite simply the best Mathematics and Physics teacher in Sydney to join our highly-experienced team to teach both subjects to ‘Higher Level’ to both cohorts.

Experience teaching the IB Diploma is certainly desirable, but not essential.

Accelerated training will be provided if new to the IB.

This is a full-time role although part-time can be considered if desirable for the right candidate.

We also welcome applications from teachers based in the UK that are prepared to relocate to Sydney for a (minimum) 3-year contract.

As a STEM-focused school, this is a key leadership role. Opportunities for ongoing career development both at the Sydney college and also within our rapidly expanding global network of schools are limited only by your desire, drive and commitment.

The Westbourne Difference:

Based in the heart of Sydney’s rapidly developing ‘Innovation and Technology Precinct’, just 10 minutes’ walk from Central, we use a ‘city office’ format and tertiary facilities to deliver to our students a ground-breaking ‘mixed secondary/tertiary’ experience without peer, providing an unmatchable, tangible context for their studies, university options and career planning. The curriculum enrichment opportunities provided by being immersed in such a professional, STEM-focused environment are unparalleled.

We are not a ‘school’ in a traditional sense. Westbourne is a professional/enterprise work environment. The incoming Year 11 students are treated as young professionals from Day 1. From our business attire dress code and open-office like environment, to joint projects with their UK colleagues, our sole goal is to prepare our students for STEM careers and as leaders of the future, on the international stage.

Westbourne College Sydney students will graduate to the very best universities in Australia, the UK and around the world.

Our leadership team includes the same people who have led our success in the UK, ranking at the very top of the UK league tables since 2015, as well as highly experienced Sydney and Asia-based professionals that have previously worked at MLC and for the IBO itself. This is an inspiring, driven, dynamic and truly world-class team. We are fiercely proud of our history … but we are unshackled by it. We are at the very forefront of modern education and are world leaders in blended learning delivery.

Westbourne College Sydney is the second in our well-developed plans to create the world’s first truly global network of academically elite colleges. We have plans to open in Singapore and an online-based college for the English-speaking world in 2022, and to achieve six-continent coverage by 2024.

Both student and teacher visits and exchanges with our UK school will commence as soon as travel restrictions permit.

Westbourne School History

Westbourne School was opened in 1895 at Ebenezer House in Westbourne Road. The present school dates its founding from 1896 when Miss Caroline Ferris became headmistress and named it: 'Westbourne House Preparatory School for Boys'. In 1901 the school moved to 13 Stanwell Road.

The adjoining building, 4 Hickman Road, was purchased in 1975 and the two buildings developed into Westbourne Senior School. Developments since 1975 have seen the school open a college for years 9-11, the acquisition of St. Alma's Girls' school at Victoria Road, after which the school became co-educational. The Victoria Road site now houses Westbourne Nursery and Junior school. Continuing improvements and the broadening of the school curriculum have seen an increase in pupil and staff numbers. Recent re-organisation in the school has led to a unification of identity into one school and the school continues to flourish, building on and adding to the achievements of the past
