ABOUT THE ROLE

You will undertake the vital role of co-ordinating, monitoring and supporting a cohort of up to 150 learners throughout their learner journey. You will work closely with subject tutors, managers and cross college teams to ensure every individual learner has an individual timetable and personalised learning plan to enable each to maximise their academic, personal and social development, and support their progression planning

You will provide support, mentoring and coaching for all designated students including those who may be at risk due to a number of factors including: under performance, poor attendance and behaviour, lack of motivation or other personal barriers to their learning and progress towards their chosen career.

You will work with a variety of learners either 1:1 or in groups to deliver the tutorial programme which will include the development of the learners’ academic, personal and social development, and support their progression planning via the development of the learners’ employability skills. You will monitor the learners’ progress on their Study Programme and conduct regular 1:1 meetings and interventions to ensure all learners are achieving their aspirational targets.  

You will intervene on a range of issues which may include punctuality, attendance, behaviour, self-management, time management, study skills across the whole School of Learning as agreed by the needs of learners and teams.  You will liaise closely with curriculum managers, their teams and other specialist services and areas both internally and externally to identify and support ‘at risk’ learners in a range of learning settings.

You will have a good understanding of the curriculum areas, learners and their learning and pastoral support needs in order to assist in the identifying the needs of students to ensure appropriate support is put into place.

You must have proven experience of working with young people and ideally in a supportive and mentoring role and to have worked in a college/school/youth environment.

You will be involved in the delivery of appropriate tutorial sessions and work closely with the tutors, curriculum and School management teams and have an involvement with organising and taking part in enrichment and wider learning activities.

You will demonstrate energy, passion and enthusiasm for making a difference and have the proven ability to lead group sessions, to engage, motivate and support young people both individually and in groups. 

It is essential that the person appointed has the ability to build positive relationships, displaying excellent communication and organisational skills.

The role will require you to embed the college’s values; working with Professionalism, taking Responsibility for your actions, and giving Respect to clients and colleagues alike.

Vision West Nottinghamshire College is a mixed, non-denominational further education college in Nottinghamshire serving students from the age of 16 and above. The college has approximately 1,200  full and part-time students attending every year. The college has six sites based in Ashfield and Mansfield. 

Vision West Nottinghamshire College was established as a Technical College in 1928. It was renamed Vision West Nottinghamshire College in 2011. Facilities across the campuses include an engineering innovation centre, art and design centre, sports hall, a hair and beauty training salon and a training restaurant for catering and hospitality students to train in.
