Job overview

Graduate Assistants: Term-time only position.

We are seeking to appoint for September 2023, a total of four Residential Graduate Assistants for the period of 1 year.

This role will suit those intending to pursue a career with young people and/or sport and/or music - perhaps in teaching, coaching, social services, mental health, youth work etc.

You will be working within an independent boarding school to support staff and pupils. You will have the opportunity to run sporting and/or music activities, as well as other enrichment activities, whilst acting as a role model for the students.

If you are passionate, caring, energetic, enthusiastic, and are willing to be adaptable and flexible and want to put children’s needs first, enjoy getting the best out of children and young people, and want to make a difference to their lives, then this is the role for you.

Ruthin School has a strong academic record which is attained through teaching which challenges and supports in equal measure. This is supplemented with first-class pastoral care and a broad range of elective activities which allow students to develop the skills to succeed in their studies and prepare for the world of work.

The school is located in a beautiful part of the country, set on the edge of the charming, historic town of Ruthin and at the foot of the Clwydian Range (an area of outstanding natural beauty). Whilst we enjoy a rural setting, we are only an hour from Manchester and Liverpool to the East and close to the coast and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park to the West. Ruthin School is one of the oldest public schools in the United Kingdom.

The remuneration is £13,000 pa, with a fixed term contract from 1 September 2023 to 5 July 2024 inclusive.

Accommodation & meals (in term time) provided.

You can read more about the role and the school here: https://www.ruthinschool.co.uk/about-us/vacancies/

Applications should be sent to hr@ruthinschool.co.uk.

Applicants should send a covering letter, detailing suitability for the post, along with a completed application form and self-declaration form.

Closing date for applications: 9am, Monday 29 May 2023

Interviews, via Teams or in person at Ruthin School, will take place for suitable candidates throughout this application window - so early applications are encouraged. We reserve the right to appoint at any time before the closing date.

To arrange a confidential discussion with the Deputy Head Pastoral, or the Head of Boarding, or to arrange a visit to the school, please email hr@ruthinschool.co.uk or call 01824 702 543.

Ruthin School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and all applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the position, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
