We are looking for a friendly, flexible and enthusiastic administration assistant to undertake daily general administrative duties for our Director of SEND and Lead Teacher of the ASD ARP.

SEND is a school priority at Barking Abbey and we want to ensure that the successful candidate is fundamental in driving the vision for SEND forward with the Director of SEND.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail in addition to a willingness to provide an outstanding service. 

The successful candidate will need to communicate daily with parents and carers as well as outside agencies and therefore must have good people skills. 

ICT experience is essential but specific training will be given on Specialist school software. Experience of working with young people would be an advantage. We are looking to appoint a dynamic self-motivated administrator. 

The successful candidate will: 

• Have Great communication skills and a positive can do approach. 

• Be confident in providing a professional, welcoming, efficient service. 

• Enjoy working in a busy office and reception area. 

• Be able to work flexibly under pressure. 

• Use their initiative and prioritise their workload. 

• Have strong administration skills and a willingness to learn. 

This role will be working closely with the Director of SEND and will include work across both campus’ and may from time to time require the undertaking of general school Administrative and PA duties where there is a need.

The core hours of work will be 08.00 to 16.00.

Recruitment process

Our recruitment process is fair and transparent and designed to get the best candidate for the role. A sample of our recruitment process is listed below

  • Advert placed on TES, internally and in LBBD boards
  • Blind shortlisting by a panel against the Job description. Potential applicants are   scored. Shortlisting by at least 3 people including one SLT.
  • Shortlist for interview based on scores from shortlisting.
  • Interview process will depend on role and may include; lesson observations, data or admin tasks, panel interviews, student panels and a final interview
  • All assessed tasks are scored according to set criteria and scores are moderated   to ensure consistency.
  • All panel interviews and final interviews are scored. Each interview has a   moderation process to ensure consistency of scores where appropriate. Questions are common to all applicants.
  • Feedback is provided by a member of the panel.


Ofsted report

A clear theme running through the school is the positive behaviour of pupils and their excellent attitudes to their work. Pupils are keen to do well and seize the opportunities given by teachers to work hard. They conduct themselves well around the school and are polite and respectful towards others. These attitudes have a strong impact on pupils' achievements because they enable learning to take place without undue interruption.
