We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring part-time science teacher to join our friendly, supportive and hardworking team at Harris Primary Academy Beckenham.

The successful candidate will establish outstanding Science practice across the academy, with the opportunity to bring science to life with practical experiments for our KS1 and KS2 pupils.

About Us

Our Academy opened in September 2015 to provide high quality primary places for local families. We are lucky to have a brand new, bright, modern and welcoming building for our school community, surrounded by green, open spaces with a wild wood area on site for outdoor learning.

Our friendly family of staff believe that every child is unique and that each deserves the opportunity to be happy, feel valued and experience success.  We are fortunate to have a strong and committed partnership with our parent body who support this ethos.

We are part of a Federation of schools with an established track record in Bromley and across London.  Our staff team is committed to ensuring that all of our children access the highest quality education in a safe and nurturing environment;  all children can achieve, it is our job as educators to do everything possible to enable them to reach their true potential.

Main Areas of Responsibility

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a great teacher with very high expectations of what can be achieved and proven track record in raising pupil attainment.
  • Is passionate about Science and has a good track record in teaching the subject.
  • Understands how children learn best and never give up on them.
  • Understands what high standards look like and how to attain them
  • Is flexible with a good sense of humour and an understanding of the ‘bigger picture’
  • Can coach and mentor others with demonstrable impact
  • Is an innovator who can take risks to make a project their own
  • Has a vision for what outstanding learning & teaching should look like in the teaching of Science
  • Is excited about leading Science across the school
  • Has a passion for teaching and will be able to drive, support and motivate others in a creative curriculum

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified teacher with proven experience.
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, at all levels.
  • Experience of managing and being responsible for own workload.

School summary

Opened in September 2015, Harris Primary Academy Beckenham is one of the area’s newest schools, but is part of a Federation of Free Schools and Academies with an established track record in London.

Our aim is to make sure that, from the first day of their education, our pupils have a truly happy experience of school. This means teaching them to become confident learners and nurturing each child’s personality and character.

All of our staff are primary specialists, working together to promote our core values and keeping our children consistently happy and safe. Our exciting, personalised learning curriculum supports and challenges all of our students and is at the heart of our teaching and learning philosophy. We ensure that all teaching and support staff have access to the highest quality training programmes to provide the most innovative and cutting-edge learning opportunities for every student.

Academy ethos

Whatever a child’s background or starting point, we want to make sure that they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills and knowledge necessary to succeed. Every lesson at our school is creative and there is plenty of time for children to think, to play, to discover and wonder.

Each child is taught in the way that suits them best and we step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested.

Our school is relaxed and comfortable but pupils know that good behaviour is expected of them and are taught to respect each other and their teachers. They are frequently praised and rewarded for trying their best and for being kind, hard-working and well-behaved.

Our school is friendly and welcoming and we always make sure that every pupil has at least one friend.
