Job overview

Sunfield Specialist School and Children’s Home is located in the beautiful Clent Hills, West Midlands and is part of the Ruskin Mill Trust providing innovative and experiential education, and supports young people (6 – 19 years) with complex learning needs, including autism and PDA.

For over 30 years, Ruskin Mill Trust has provided Specialist Independent Education to children and adults with complex needs including learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and disabilities. Our provisions offer both day and residential placements and applications. Inspired by Aonghus Gordon using the insights of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris, Ruskin Mill Trust works with hand, head, heart and place to provide students with the tools to transform material and in doing so transform themselves.

Special Education Needs Teacher

Competitive Salary for Outstanding Teacher and SEN allowance

Hours 35 / 39 weeks

The School provides a child-centred curriculum, adapted to each child’s developmental and learning needs, and the opportunity to discover each child's path to lifelong learning, offering a variety of educational programs designed to meet the needs of students with developmental delays, social and sensory sensitivities, and learning challenges. This outdoor curriculum is derived from an approach which braids together the insights of Rudolf Steiner with the National Curriculum and Practical Skills Therapeutic Education method of the Ruskin Mill Trust.

This post will suit someone who has the significant experience in teaching children with SEND and ideally within a Steiner school environment although not essential who wishes to join this unique school. In return we offer significant personal development opportunities to work within a holistic organisation that is complex and growing on a national scale and the satisfaction to significantly improve the lives of young people and their families.

We provide an in-depth induction programme to enable our new team members to experience the Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) curriculum and also opportunities for academic research including our own MSc in PSTE.

Working at Sunfield is incredibly rewarding and in return, we offer competitive salaries and an auto-enrolment scheme. In addition, staff receive:

·      A comprehensive induction, extensive training and personal development

·      Free car parking facilities on site, beautiful location, free lunches.

·      Free employee assistance programme with BHSF

This post is subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for both Adults and Children, medical check, evidence of qualifications, plus verification of the right to work in the UK. Sunfield Children’s Home is a registered charity (No. 527522) and an equal opportunities employer. Sunfield is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
