Devonshire House is a large co-educational prep school (550 on roll) in Hampstead, north London, on the cusp of a transformational period of positive change, intent on offering an outstanding education in every sense for its pupils and their parents. Specialist English Teacher

We are seeking an outstanding Specialist English Teacher to join our thriving co-educational prep school in beautiful Hampstead. Devonshire House offers high quality professional development and the opportunity for career progression for ambitious, talented teachers who know how to challenge and support the learning of girls and boys of different learning profiles. Excellent pastoral care and positive engagement with parents are also vital for the role.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The key responsibilities and duties detailed below are intended for the purpose of detailing core responsibilities of the role, which can be subject to change in accordance with the needs of the School and pupils. 

The English Teacher will need to be able to teach up to Year 7 and 8, KS3, including preparation for 11+ and 13+ entrance examinations and potential scholarship classes.

Teaching:  

·        Teach the English curriculum within the Upper School.

·        Teach lessons at the times stipulated on the School timetable.   

·        Oversee schemes of work and detailed termly and weekly lesson plans, linking to the School's ISEB syllabus at the appropriate levels.   

·        Liaise with other teachers within the year group to ensure consistency across the curriculum and syllabus.    

·        Periodically review schemes of work and teaching methods, as well as keeping up to date with key changes in the National Curriculum, with emphasis on your specialist subject.      

 

Person Specification 

Qualifications, Education and Training

Essential:  

·        University degree (non-UK degrees require a statement of comparability from UK Naric)     

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:  

·        Knowledge of UK curriculum and syllabus    

·        An excellent track record as a teacher    

·        Experience in supporting pupils of all abilities to make excellent progress

Desirable:  

·        Knowledge of curricular development    

Skills and Abilities  

·        A strong level of IT competency, including Office 365   

·        Outstanding written, oral communication and listening skills

Devonshire House Preparatory School is situated in the heart of Hampstead. The School has five Victorian premises with charming grounds and walled gardens. The Early Years starts in the Oak Tree Nursery (ages 2 – 3 ½ ) and is based at 6 Arkwright Road.
