Aston University Engineering Academy and Aston University Sixth Form is a specialist University Technical College established in 2012. We are a heavily oversubscribed 13-19-Year-old school, with 250 Year 9-Year 11 students and 500 sixth-form students, we have become a highly valued and recognised lead centre for design and engineering in the Midlands.
Art - as well as being a fundamental component in our Product Design, Design and Technology, and world-leading 3D design courses since 2012, following £20K investment in resources and a new Art room, was launched as a stand-alone specialist department in September 2021. This was a key development to support the significant rise in demand for University progression into Architecture, Interior design, Automotive design and Product design.
Our curriculum now consists of Year 9 Art, GCSE Art and Design, A Level Art and wider extra-curricular art. There is also extensive investment in digital art facilities along with photography.
Following the relocation of the post-holder, we are now seeking an experienced Art Teacher for September 2023 who would relish the opportunity to lead this exciting department in its growth and development.
As part of the Engineering Faculty, you will be supported by the Director of Engineering and other subject leaders in Design and Technology as well as the close-knit wider faculty staff.

This role will suit an experienced Art and Design practitioner who either already has leadership experience or feels ready to be supported in developing these skills. Training and CPD will be provided.

Interviews:
Part 1: Shortlisted Candidates will be invited to an event on Monday 6th March 5pm-6:30pm, with the option to meet senior staff, undertake a tour and for candidates to share their experiences, skills and portfolio of work (self and/or students)
Part 2: Following additional shortlisting,
Formal Interviews and Lessons Observations will be Friday 10th March 2023.
Interviews will be coordinated in line with appropriate procedures in line with current COVID-19 regulations and safety.

Since opening in September 2012, AUEA has grown under consistent strong leadership into a vibrant learning community, oversubscribed by students from across Birmingham taught by 100% subject expert teachers.
Aston University Engineering Academy (Years 9, 10 and 11) and Aston University Sixth Form (Years 12, 13 and 14) are both housed in our £16.2 million state of the art building located in the heart of the city of Birmingham, next to the Aston University and Innovation Birmingham campuses, with a new multi-million pound extension due to start within the next few months. It is located close to the motorway links and within easy walking of three city centre train stations.
Originally designed for 600 students, AUEA now has 720 students on roll and has now been approved to expand to 800 students. We have a close-knit family of around 40 teachers, and 40 support staff, including administration staff, dedicated HLTA’s/TAs, college leaders (pastoral) and technicians to name a few. AUEA is a proud recipient of the Armed Forces Covenant, Gold Employer Recognition Scheme and has Royal Navy Affiliation.
