Supply Teacher (Early Years & Junior Schools)

We are looking for dynamic and passionate Teachers for supply teaching roles for Early Years and Junior Schools. We hire supply teaching staff throughout the school year, to provide support during planned or unplanned teacher absences. Successful candidates should be UK-qualified teachers with experience teaching children aged 3-5, 5-7, and 7-11 years, within the British curriculum. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Education or PGCE/PGDE teaching qualification, and/or Early Childhood Education certification.

IMPORTANT: Applicants should reside in or near Amsterdam and be available to work at short notice. Must have the legal ability to work in the Netherlands through citizenship, residency, or a valid work visa. Work visa sponsorship is not possible for supply work.

Key Responsibilities 

  • To take responsibility for planning and implementing appropriate work programmes for all children in the designated class, within the framework of the National Curriculum for England and school policies to ensure that the children experience a broad, balanced, relevant, and stimulating curriculum. 
  • To access children’s progress, maintain records, and provide written reports to parents and carers in accordance with school policies.      
  • To ensure a close match between the learning experiences offered and the individual needs of the children in the class, so as to give each child an opportunity to achieve the maximum of his/her capability, providing children with opportunities to manage their own learning and become independent learners.  
  • To create a secure, happy, stimulating classroom environment, maintaining the highest standards of organization and discipline, and a high standard of display both in the classroom and in other areas of the school.  
  • To foster each child’s self-image and self-esteem and establish relationships that are based on mutual respect, and ensure that the school’s aims and objectives in relation to the curriculum, equal opportunities, and discipline are promoted in everyday classroom organization and practice.

Person specification

The successful Supply teacher will have:

  • 3 years of experience working with the English National Curriculum  
  • UK teaching qualifications (B.Ed or PGCE) or higher are essential  
  • Experience working with Early Years or Primary aged pupils  (children aged 6-12 years)
  • Experience teaching EAL children  (children aged 3-6 years) useful
  • Experience in and an understanding of a wide range of learning abilities  
  • Professional understanding of the educational needs of children  
  • International School experience is desirable

  • Good communication skills 
  • Flexible, cooperative approach to work  
  • Strong IT skills to support teaching and learning  
  • Good understanding of assessment for learning

  • A proactive approach to continual professional development  
  • Energy, willingness to learn, and a good sense of humour
