Job overview

We are looking to appoint an experienced, qualified teacher specialising in Science for Easter or September 2018.

Harris Garrard Academy is an all-through 3–18 academy with approximately 1350 pupils on roll and joined the Harris Federation as a sponsored academy in September 2017. The academy is based in Thamesmead in a purpose built building. We are now on a journey towards “Outstanding”, led by highly experienced executive principals with proven track records of school transformation.

Our vision is clear: nothing is impossible and everything is possible, irrespective of personal characteristics or background. Every problem has a solution. We believe we are more robust, resilient and determined as a team than as a group of individuals. We support, challenge and hold each other to account at all levels within the academy to ensure that our students achieve their potential, are motivated, engaged and fully prepared for life beyond our academy.

Your role:

This would be a non class based role; whilst you would initially be based at Harris Garrard Academy, we are looking for the right person to be able to take Science to the next level in our all through academies  in the future. For the right candidate there will be the opportunity to support, develop and coach staff throughout the whole academy.

We are keen to develop subject specialist teachers across Key Stage 2, and part of your role would be to model, coach, team teach and support class teachers, as well as nurturing and mentoring science specialists within the academies. You will work closely with the Senior Executive Principal who has oversight of the all through academies, and will have dedicated leadership time to develop the role.

You will work closely with Class Teachers, Academy Leaders  developing the role of Science learning within the academies and helping to ensuring the well-being of pupils during their time at school. You will be enthusiastic, have great interpersonal skills, enjoy taking the lead and working as part of a team. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed professional looking to continue their career in a rewarding new role.

We welcome applications from experienced practitioners who will:

  • Be committed to the highest achievement for all;
  • Be committed to on-going professional development;
  • Contribute to the wider life at the academy;
  • Support the maintenance of a dynamic and inspiring learning environment;
  • Be innovative, highly motivated and eager to take a lead;
  • Have good interpersonal skills and are able to work well as part of our team
  • have a real passion and expertise in their subject
  • make a difference to the lives of the children within the all through academies
  • welcome the chance to be innovative, modeling best practice in the classrooms

The successful candidate should hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree. Applications from secondary trained science specialists looking to teach in a primary setting (KS1 through to KS2-KS3 transition) will be considered.
