Senior School is such an exciting stage in the educational journey. From the first year in Senior School, pupils start making choices about what they study, with GCSE options considered in the Spring term of Year 9. By the end they are making the momentous choice of what to study or do next as adults. It is also a time where the pressure on pupils can be at its greatest: as they manage the complexity of adolescence and feel the future beginning to weigh on them.

At Fulham Senior we seek to foster above all the secure capability to cope with these pressures and embrace these opportunities. We want all our pupils to excel in the areas they care about most, but beyond that we want them to engage with their learning, and their futures, with independence of mind and confidence of spirit.

Situated in the heart of Fulham, the location is a wonderful place to work, play and grow. Specialist teachers and support staff inspire our pupils to work to the limits of their potential and prepare them for the next steps in life while learning more about themselves and developing a broad range of interests. Our close-knit but global community celebrates individuality, kindness, and ambition.

Fulham Senior seeks to provide an excellent traditional education in core subjects and to make available the array of wider activities that allow each individual to find a place. However, more than this, we seek to provide life skills, the ability to make connections between and beyond subjects, the ability to work together to achieve more than any individual can alone: these are the things that make us distinctive.

We are also proud of our origins as a prep school that has grown upwards. Senior school can be a time when many of the virtues of junior school are lost as year groups grow and subjects’ splinter. Much of what we do at Fulham Senior is designed to preserve the supportive and collaborative atmosphere of prep school in the very different world of senior education. Theme weeks where all pupils collaborate; year-groups small enough that everyone properly knows everyone else, but large enough to be challenged and drawn out; above all personal attention, recognition and celebration from teachers who care deeply about every individual’s progress – these are some of the things we retain as horizons broaden and university beckons.

Over the years ahead, our pupils will find many opportunities coming their way. We ask them to make the most of these; get involved, ask questions, and discover new ways to express themselves. We encourage them to always do their best. There are no limits to what one can achieve if you aim high and remain persistent and embrace all the challenges, academic, sporting, or extra-curricular with a positive outlook and enthusiasm.

The first few years of Senior School will be the most exciting in a pupil’s school career. They must share their knowledge and skills. About Fulham School

Fulham School is independent and co-educational, providing a rich and diverse curriculum to boys and girls from Reception upwards. Co-education and celebrating diverse abilities across academic, creative and sporting pursuits are at the heart of all we do.

There are three stages of the school, each with its own distinct identity, contributing to the breadth of each pupil’s experience as they progress:

• Fulham Pre-Prep: from Reception to Year 2 (ages 4-7)
• Fulham Prep: from Year 3 to Year 8 (ages 7-13)
• Fulham Senior: from Year 9 upwards (ages 13 upwards)

Fulham Pre-Prep occupies a spacious site on Fulham High Street near Putney Bridge, including a lovely Victorian building, a modern purpose-built block and outdoor play, garden and sports spaces. Fulham Prep and Fulham Senior are located in a magnificent building on Greyhound Road with around an acre of outdoor space including a playground and sports pitch and has dedicated access to excellent local sports facilities.

Fulham School was founded in 1996 by Jane Emmett, who remains a governor. Since that time it has grown from a single class to a school of over 700 pupils while retaining the warmth and family atmosphere that Jane instilled.

In 2014 Fulham School was proud to join the global Inspired Group. Inspired educates over 31,000 students across an international network of 42 schools on five continents. Being part of the group gives us a remarkable wealth of talent and experience on which to draw and exposes our pupils to global perspectives and the best in educational approaches across the world.

We opened our Senior School in 2017, and officially became Fulham School (incorporating Fulham Pre-prep, Fulham Prep and Fulham Senior) in 2018. The Prep School continues to prepare children for a range of destinations at 11+ and 13+. We believe that each pupil should follow the path that is right for them and are proud of the diversity of our outcomes – we regularly send pupils to 30 or more schools across London and nationwide. Fulham Senior remains one of the options available, not the only optional available, to Prep pupils.

When founding our Senior School we were guided first by parents and others in our community: we all felt there was a clear need for a local co-educational through-school that was not distorted by artificial and heavily tutored selection and an overly narrow set of educational outcomes. Fulham School seeks to meet that need, but to do more. We stand against some of the constraints and frustrations that mar the present system, and we offer a distinctive curriculum and fresh approach that aims to provide a genuine alternative.
