Job overview

Dear Applicant,

Teacher of Drama and Creative Arts

Required from 1st September 2021

Thank you for your interest in the above post, which offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work in this thriving and successful 11-18 rural school.

Settle College is a happy school community where innovation, creativity, enterprise and a sense of fun and enjoyment is encouraged, valued and celebrated. We recognise each student as an individual and every single student brings their own unique personality, skills, talents and interests. Academic success is important but so is our commitment to ensuring that students develop the skills that will prepare them for life-long learning in a rapidly changing world; confident in their ability to meet any challenges ahead and enabling every student to succeed and achieve their full potential.

We are looking for a well-qualified, enthusiastic and hard-working teacher of Drama who has a passion for the subject and the ability to contextualise learning, bringing learning to life. It would be of benefit to offer another creative arts discipline or have the ability and experience to teach another subject outside of the arts. The successful candidate will be aspirational in outlook, showing a commitment to raising achievement in Drama through outstanding teaching and learning in and out of the classroom. In return we can offer you support from a highly committed and experienced team with a strong and positive ethos, where every student is encouraged to be the best they can be. Your support will make a real difference to continue the journey of success of the department.

What can we offer you?

• Investment in your professional development.

• One day off timetable per year for the first 3 years to observe outstanding practice.

• Access to professional development through the Northern Lights Teaching School Alliance.

• North Yorkshire County Council’s ‘Everybody Benefits’ package, including salary sacrifice for childcare, or cycle to work.

• A weekly CPD induction plan to establish you in school.

Applications from experienced qualified teachers are welcome as well as newly qualified teachers. To assist with your application, and give further background information on the post, we have included the following details within this document: Information about the school, department information, aims of the role, person specification and how to apply for the post.

Settle College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

We look forward to receiving your completed application form, which must be accompanied by a supporting letter of no more than one side of A4 showing how your current or recent experience relates to the areas of responsibility within the Job Description and Person Specification.

Please send the completed application form and letter of application to the Headteacher, Mr Gareth Whitaker, admin@settlecollege.n-yorks.sch.uk as soon as possible and to arrive no later than 12:00 noon  on Tuesday 10th August 2021.

Thank you for your interest in the post; we look forward to receiving your application form.

About Settle College

Settle College is an 11-18 comprehensive school. Founded in 1907 as Settle Girls’ High School, in 1959 we became Settle High School, one of the first comprehensive schools in the UK. Our name changed again to Settle College in 2004 when the school gained Technology College status.  At Settle College, high quality teaching and learning is at the heart of everything we do, combined with exceptional pastoral support to meet the individual needs of every student. We place a strong emphasis on high standards of behaviour, respect and courtesy. Our innovative Key Stage 4 curriculum allows students the opportunity to study a wide range of GCSE and vocational courses from Year 9 onwards. We also offer a full and diverse range of extra-curricular activities in sport, dance and drama, to name a few.

Values and Vision

Settle College is a place of innovation and creativity, where all children are encouraged to uphold their highest academic abilities at the same time as enjoying their time studying in a vibrant and successful school. Thanks to its smaller size than many secondary schools, it treats each of its students as individuals, ensuring that their personalities, skills and talents are used to make the school the diverse and thriving educational environment that it is.

Ofsted

"The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. Since your appointment as Headteacher in November 2018, you have led the school with vision and vigour and a real sense of moral purpose. Working with staff and governors, you have quickly and effectively established a culture and ways of working that have helped address the uncertainties that had led to a dip in quality of some aspects of the school’s work. Because of your actions and approach, the school is very much back on track and is making strong progress."
