Background to School

The Market Bosworth School is an Outstanding school in the county of Leicestershire. We have been recognised three times as Outstanding by Ofsted, in July 2009, May 2012 and April 2018. We have been an Academy since May 2012. Our predecessor Local Authority was Leicestershire County Council; with whom we continue to work closely.

We are ideally placed for commuting from a wide area, being situated about twenty minutes from Leicester in the rural and picturesque village of Market Bosworth. Whilst the majority of our staff live within Leicestershire, we have a number who commute daily from Warwickshire, Derbyshire, and Staffordshire

As with many Leicestershire Schools, we had an historical age range which differed to much of the country. Until July 2014, our age range was 11-14, teaching students in years 7, 8 & 9. This meant a focus on outstanding achievement at KS3, with a small proportion of students taking selected GCSEs, two years early in year 9. Following a stakeholder consultation and approval from the EFSA, we changed our age range in September 2014.  Our first cohort of Year 11 students sat their GCSEs in Summer 2016 and since that year we have consistently been one of the highest performing schools in Leicestershire.

Student numbers have increased rapidly in recent years, from 575 in 2010, to our “peak” due to age range change of 879 in September 2015. We have since managed to stabilise numbers but continue to be significantly oversubscribed.

Our Vision

  • The Market Bosworth School is committed to providing the skills and knowledge that will allow learning to be part of a lifelong process, ensuring our students grow into ambitious young adults who are excited about the world around them.
  • We are committed to raising standards for all our students, promoting the highest possible achievements, regardless of background or ability.
  • We strive to educate with care to enable all students to realise their full potential, both academically and socially.
  • We aim to work with students, staff, parents and the community to provide a safe and happy learning environment.

Curriculum

We operate a two week timetable. 5 Lessons a day 25 lessons a week. Lessons are 1 hour long. Students are set by ability from year 7 in Maths and Science (plus English if required). Careful timetable planning and consultation allow subject leaders to set and organise groupings based on need from year 7 onwards. This includes smaller groups for D&T, single sex PE groups in KS3 as well as mixed ability groups where requested.

Students follow a curriculum that reflects the national curriculum at KS3 which includes a number of revisions following the national 2014 changes. At KS4, we offer a balanced and broadly traditional curriculum, with intervention and bespoke pathways for students where appropriate. We provide a number of extra-curricular clubs, including sports such as football, netball, rugby, rounders, badminton, cricket and basketball.  Running alongside these there are a significant number of other opportunities e.g. Art Club, Music, Drama, Design and Computing
