Are you an enthusiastic and creative Teacher of History or Geography who is looking for a new opportunity?

King’s School is currently recruiting for a Teacher of Humanities to join our supportive and ambitious team at an exciting stage in the school’s development; the beginning of our Sixth Form. This role is suitable for ECTs looking to start their career in a welcoming environment with a track record of outstanding support for new teachers; and equally for experienced teachers who want a new challenge in a dynamic and ambitious setting.

The role

This role will entail teaching either History or Geography to Key Stages 3-5, as well as a second subject from one of RP, History, Geography or PSHE. The post holder will join one of our friendly and creative departments, History or Geography, depending on their teaching specialism. Both departments benefit from experienced and dynamic leadership and an excellent track record of academic success for their students. The post holder will also have support in the second subject from the Head of Department or Lead Teacher for that area. Candidates will be asked their preference and experience of these subjects at interview. Please see the attached job description and person specification for more information. For ECTs, please also see the letter from Mrs Kate Vincent, Assistant Headteacher, who leads our ECT programme.

Who are we?

King’s School is an ecumenical Christian School in the Diocese of Chichester. Our work and relationships are based upon the four core Christian values of Love, Forgiveness, Respect and Responsibility and through these we encourage and support every student and member of staff to be the best that they can be.

The school opened its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2013, when it was based on a small temporary site. There are currently just over 800 students in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, and a team of over 75 teachers and support staff. In September 2019 the school moved into its permanent site in Hangleton. We are now lucky to enjoy purpose-built facilities for all areas of the curriculum and stunning views of the South Downs. This was the culmination of six years of hard work and planning and marked the beginning of an exciting new stage in the school’s development. Our next milestone will be the opening of our Sixth Form in 2023. Planning and preparation for this are well underway. Applicants are encouraged to review our Sixth Form website for more information.

What do others say about us?

The school received its third Ofsted inspection in March 2022 (Section 5 inspection) and retained its rating of good overall with outstanding features. The inspector noted that pupils “are proud to be part of the school community” and that “the school’s provision for their education and welfare makes a significant contribution to their lives”.

Our recent staff survey found that staff feel supported and valued.

·        “I feel very supported and listened to in this school. The school sets clear expectations, and the SLT is very approachable.”

·        “I feel good about my new role. I feel I can approach colleagues, and the senior team with any questions or queries that I may have.”

Values and Vision

King’s School is an ecumenical Christian school, but welcomes staff and students of all faiths or none. Its four core values are love, forgiveness, respect and responsibility, demonstrating its strong upholding of religious values as well as its focus on creating students who are valuable contributors to the modern outside world.

The school's curriculum is strongly centred on English and maths, providing a firm foundation for the other curricular and extracurricular topics that it offers. Its religious studies lessons across all years help to encourage the understanding of Anglican as well as other mainstream Christian traditions.

Ofsted

“Governance is excellent. Governors use their wide-ranging skills to the best advantage of the school. They know where the best teaching resides and provide very effective challenge and support for school leaders. Students’ behaviour around the school and in lessons is [also] excellent. [They] are polite and take pride in their appearance [and] progress is tracked carefully so that effective action is taken to support students at risk of falling behind.” Ofsted 2015

The school had a short Ofsted inspection in December 2018 and maintained its good rating (from June 2015) with a recommendation that the school receives a Section 5 inspection for its next inspection due to marked improvement since 2015.
