Job overview

Team: Education and Teaching

Location: Wrenthorpe, Wakefield

The positive impact you can have on a young person’s life is most likely the reason you got into teaching in the first place. At Hall Cliffe Primary School, that impact will be greater than you could have imagined.

Hall Cliffe Primary School is a co-educational, independent, specialist day school providing high quality education for boys and girls aged 5-13 (although we currently only support pupils in key stage 1 and 2). Based in Wakefield, the school meets the needs of a diverse group of pupils with special educational needs including challenges linked to attachment and trauma as well as speech, language and communication challenges, autism, ADHD, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. The school meets the needs of just 34 young people – enabling you to make a lasting difference.

Our teachers are there to channel their individual capabilities into emotional support and academic success, as part of a holistic and uniquely attentive educational strategy – and all of this from a setting that is truly inspiring to both pupils and teachers.

The role

Key to this role will be being able to foster strong, trusting relationships and being able to truly understand and accept the needs behind the big behaviours. You will need to be able to have unconditional positive regard and be incredibly resilience, having an ability to bounce back time and time again. Our children need staff who understand the importance of connection before correction and understand and believe in a trauma informed approach. You will be able to make learning fun, active and hands on. Our children love practical learning.

Our children demand a special kind of empathy, warmth and skill, it’s not your average teaching role, but you’ll always have the very best resources at your disposal, so you can focus on inspiring each and every one of your pupils.

It will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, but you can expect to take home a sense of having done something amazing every single day. You will join our staff team of real life superheroes who are genuinely changing lives. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team, not just with other education and pastoral staff in the school and across the Group but with our in-house Education Psychologists, Assistant Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Mental Health Practitioners. All pulling together to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved, ensuring that we prepare children for their next stages of life.

The person

We’re looking for a very special Teacher. An outstanding primary practitioner who is able to adapt the National Curriculum to meet the needs of all our children. You must be experienced in teaching reading and able to support children who are anxious about learning and have a fear of failure.

You must be able to provide quality feedback to children, enabling them to move forward and improve their learning. You must be skilled in using a range of adaptive learning techniques ensuring that you have high expectations of all children in your care.

You will support children to access learning beyond the school building being able to give children experiences that will help them to make a meaningful contribution in an ever changing, multicultural United Kingdom. You will nurture individual talents and special interests ensuring that all in your care achieve.

You are someone who wants to be part of the conversation when it comes to decisions on how we, as a Group, best meet the needs of each child with regard to training, support and annual reviews.

Aware of the standards that Ofsted look out for and always conscious to exceed them, you’ll be the kind of teacher who is never anything but engaged and engaging. What’s more, you’ll be excited by the prospect of working in such a small, specialist environment and will seize this as an opportunity to tailor learning to individuals and build stronger relationships. Empathetic and passionate, you’ll understand that our pupils’ journeys aren’t necessarily linear. If you haven’t worked in SEN before, but are enthusiastic and motivated to make the move, we’ll give you all the additional training and support you require.
