Northern Education Trust (NET) is a charitable education trust with a good track record for school improvement. The trust sponsors 22 academies; 12 secondary and 10 primaries across the north of England in eleven local authority regions.

Reporting directly to the deputy chief executive officer (DCEO), the trust DSL will play a critical role in ensuring our academies meet all regulatory standards with regards to safeguarding. The successful candidate will be the point of contact for academy designated safeguarding leads (DSLs) for all complex child protection issues and queries. This role will therefore suit former LADOs, children’s services or social care professionals, or experienced DSLs.

Working closely with the DCEO and the trust safeguarding team, you will champion safeguarding at a senior level and be responsible for all operational aspects of safeguarding across the trust, including development, implementation and compliance. You will be suitably qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline, or hold equivalent work experience. This will include case management and investigative work and experience of working with external partners such as the local authority and local safeguarding board. Although not essential, experience of working in the education sector is preferable. You will be a credible professional and be able to communicate effectively to a range of audiences including children, families, and external multi-agency organisations.

For an informal discussion on this role please contact Kathryn Nicholson, senior executive assistant to the DCEO at k.nicholson1@northerneducationtrust.org.

The trust is committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. All posts are subject to enhanced disclosure and barring service checks. We expect all adults to share our commitment to safeguarding and the health and wellbeing of our pupils.

Closing date: 8 am on Monday 12 December 2022, Interviews are scheduled for Friday 16 December
